Those who came out for the Culver City Artwalk and ventured south of Washington on La Cienega encountered a very special treat. Two legends in graffiti, El Mac and Retna, were collaboratively painting a huge mural sponsored by Rivera & Rivera. The team, who have blessed walls from coast to coast–including many beautiful ones in Los Angeles already–worked into the night, unloading aerosol can after aerosol can on this piece. Word is that they had two days left on this one, but as you can […]
Another stop on the Culver City Artwalk last weekend for us was “Picks of the Harvest” at Thinkspace Gallery. With the recent moves of several of our favorite galleries into the the area, the stroll through the art district has become alot more enjoyable and productive. Headlining the show were the tongue-in-cheek paintings from the always entertaining David MacDowell (featured). Also on display were many other works from the gallery’s roster of artists. This past Saturday, one of the stops we made at the Culver City Artwalk that made us pause for a long while was “Booked” (previewed) at Carmichael Gallery. Focusing on gathering works from some of the brightest names in urban art, they rounded up a interesting mix that would appease even the most critical fan. Check it out after the jump.
The first stop of the Culver City Artwalk for AM was the group show at LeBasse Projects. Along with a strong lineup of gallery regulars, artists new to us such as Jean-Pierre Roy were featured during this annual event. His colorful paintings of imaginary landscapes drew us in with their dream-like vibrancy and fancy. More pics after the jump…

Heading their show is master manipulator of pop culture and satirist, David MacDowell. You can’t help but smile when you see the skill in which David takes familiar elements and remixes them into a clever and unexpected composition – like Golem heading over to “Booger King” […]

We saw that rising UK star Jonathan Darby posted some images on his blog from his studio of some new work in progress as he prepares for a showing with Lebasse Projects as part of the annual Culver City Artwalk, so we thought we’d ask him for a few more. Each body of work we see from Jonathan shows a progression and judging by the paint splatters on the studio walls and ceiling, it looks like he has been getting down and dirty to make some […]
