Showing: Taylor McKimens – “Swapping Paint” @ Dio Horia

Athens’ Dio Horia gallery recently hosted Taylor McKimens in their one month long residency program where he created a whole new series of paintings that are currently on view. Swapping Paint continues his recent Stoic Youth show (covered), which also explored his take on Hellenistic art. Utilizing the figurative part of his imagery as a repeating theme, the NY-based artist focused instead on the background, colorways, patterns, and the surrounding abstract elements. Combining old and the new in technique, medium, and style, the work on display break the boundaries of collage, painting and drawing. Wanting authentic […]

By adding a light blue section in the shape of the human liver, INO is addressing the fact that 200,000 Greeks suffer from hepatitis C, but only 4% know it. Using a […]

Recap: Alexandros Vasmoulakis – “My eyes are seeing you” @ Amalias 36

Recently in Athens, Alexandros Vasmoulakis held a brief popup showing at Amalias 36 entitled My eyes are seeing you. The sexually charged and promiscuous narrative from the Greek artist has an interesting setup with a sculptural installation that features male heads obsessively staring at the figures in the paintings and depending on your perspective, the attendees of the show themselves. Take a look at more photos from the exhibition below as well as the individual pieces here. Discuss Alexandros Vasmoulakis here.

Has anyone taken up Damien Hirst’s The Complete Spot Challenge? AM will be visiting and covering as many of the Gagosian openings for you as possible now that January 12th is here, but hopefully someone out there will be able to attend all eleven locations (New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Rome, Athens, Geneva, and Hong Kong) at some point. “Included in the exhibition are more than 300 paintings, from the first spot on board that Hirst created in 1986; to the smallest spot painting comprising half […]
