Previews: “Risqué {dirty little pictures}” @ Long Beach Museum of Art

On Thursday night, September 19th, the Long Beach Museum of Art will host the opening of a new group exhibition entitled Risqué {dirty little pictures}. Roq La Rue changed it up for this month’s opening. The works on display are from the personal collection of the Baxter family, who are selling some of their collection to move overseas. Releases: Audrey Kawasaki x Pressure Printing – “Eien”

For those who missed Audrey Kawasaki’s (interviewed) sold out print release from Pressure Printing five years ago, here is your chance at the companion print. Entitled Eien, which in Japanese translates to “forever,” “eternity,” or “permanence,” the new limited edition (run of 50) sized at  8 ¾” × 12 ¾” will cost you $1500 and comes in hand built walnut frames. The print, which is hand embellished by Audrey in pink pencil, will be available for sale at noon PDT on Tuesday, July 23rd 2013. Discuss Audrey Kawasaki here.

With Basel Week Switzerland coming to an end, here is a look at the Thinkspace Gallery booth at the SCOPE art fair. The showing focused on the works Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) and Esao Andrews with both artists continuing to show progression in their aesthetic. Kawasaki’s new paintings this time were solely created on dark backgrounds, something that not commonly seen in high numbers in one body of work, which contrasted nicely with her choice of vibrant colors to complement her seductive muses. As most in the art world knows, Basel Week Switzerland is underway. While not everyone can make the two hour trek over to check what looks to be an epic showing from KAWS, you should stop by SCOPE after checking out the main fair. Thinkspace Gallery is featuring seductive new paintings from Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) at their booth in a mini-solo. Openings: “Supersonic Electric Invitational 2” @ Spoke Art

Last Thursday evening, Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco hosted the opening of the 2nd Annual Supersonic Electric Invitational to a packed house with many of the 32 artists in attendance. The show is curated by Zach Tutor, who founded and runs the Tumblr-based contemporary art blog Supersonic Electronic, by choosing some of his favorite artists who he felt are innovative, dynamic and compelling.
