One of the shows we visited during Art Basel Week was Affordable Care, curated by Flaunt Magazine. Held in the Mana Wynwood complex in Miami’s downtown district, this group exhbition explores the contradiction of the words “affordable” and “care”. This pairing of terms in the current world is sort of an oxymoron in a time of digital missives, healthcare glitches, and artistic free-for-all. Facemaker opened at Royal/T last Wednesday, curated by Kathy Grayson, director of The Hole NYC and former director of the Deitch Projects. Just in time for Art in the Streets, the eclectic Culver City art space has teamed up with the New York gallery to put on a street-pop frenzy, displaying a playful amalgam of colorful imagery centered on different interpretations of the face. AM’s whirlwind Los Angeles art show weekend capped off with a trip to New Image Art for the â€œOcto Pussesâ€ group exhibition, which featured the work of Aaron Johnson, Antonio Diaz, Ben Jones, Cleon Peterson, Gino Perez, Judith Supine (studio visit) and Neck Face. New Image Art opens their â€œOcto Pussesâ€ group exhibition this Saturday, May 2nd. The show includes a nice variety of up-and-comers and established names, featuring the work ofÂ Aaron Johnson, Antonio Diaz, Ben Jones, Cleon Peterson, Gino Perez, Judith Supine (studio visit) and Neck Face. Taking over the gallery’s project room with “Horse Radish”Â is Bast (studio visit), who makes his return to the gallery with aÂ series based on horse jockey collages.
