Previews / POW! WOW! Hawaii ’20: Thinkspace – “Exploring The New Contemporary Movement VII”

Continuing to collaborate with POW! WOW! Hawaii (2020 edition started this weekend), Thinkspace will putting their Exploring The New Contemporary Movement VII group show at Wade Warehouse (449 Cooke Street) on view from February 11-15. POW WOW ’19 / Previews: “My Neighbor Hayao” @ Ala Moana Center

As part of this year’s POW! WOW! HAWAII, Spoke Art will be presenting a group exhibition entitled My Neighbor Hayao. The tribute show to the Hayao Miyazki features work from over 100 international artists (like Dan Mumford above) each contributing an interpretation of their favorite Miyazaki films, characters and scenes. This special weekend-only showing will be on view inside Ala Moana Center (unit 1234) from February 13-17.          

Previews: “The New Vanguard II” @ Lancaster MOAH

Following up on The New Vanguard show back in 2016 (covered), the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH), again in collaboration with Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery, will be opening the second iteration of the group exhibition on October 20th. Presented conjointly with this year’s POW!WOW! Antelope Valley, the event once again includes a diverse range of artists. On June 9th, a massive group show will open at Antler Gallery in Portland entitled LAX/PDX. Tonight in Portland, Antler Gallery will be opening a group show to benefit the National Audubon Society. Previews: Brian Mashburn – “Witness” @ Thinkspace Gallery

As a followup to his small show earlier this year (covered) at Thinkspace Gallery, Brian Mashburn will be taking over the project room with a more extensive body of work starting this Saturday, July 18th. Witness will see more exotic creatures join the North Carolina-based artist’s distinctive visual world where animals are posed in the foreground against the hazy background of industrial degradation. Previews: Brian Mashburn – “Contenders” @ Thinkspace

Opening this Saturday, April 25th, will be a small show from Brian Mashburn at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. Entitled Contenders, the new body of work will consist of six 6″ x 6″ paintings centered thematically on roosters. They look to be rendered beautifully in and in detail in the foreground contrasting nicely with the North Carolina-based artist’s recognizable backgrounds. Discuss Brian Mashburn here.
