Upcoming: Baby Tattooville 2015 – Mark Ryden & Marion Peck Surrealist Ball

At the conclusion of Baby Tattooville last Sunday morning, attendees had the customary brunch at the Mission Inn before grabbing their Gift Bags and heading their separate ways. While they were finishing their selections from the impressive spread, ringleader Bob Self stood up to make some announcements but the final comments came as a total surprise. Next year’s event will be the last and final one and will culminate with a surrealist ball hosted by Mark Ryden and Marion Peck. Other confirmed guests include Camille […]

Baby Tattooville ’14: Gift Bags

Even though Baby Tattooville founder Bob Self explained that his vision for the gift bags is that they are “souvenirs of a remarkable weekend,” any visitors would say they are much more than that. They are a bounty of remarkable art, including 3 foot by 4 foot signed giclee print of the Art Jam painting, original pieces from Joe Sorren, Jeff Soto, Eric Fortune, Miss Mindy and Brian Smith. In total, there are more than twenty items including limited edition prints, vinyl figures, books, original […]

Baby Tattooville ’14: Art Jam!

Bringing together 14 accomplished and sought after artists in the lowbrow art world is not easily done, and a feat worth noting all on its own. But having those artists collaborate on a single piece of art, creating it in a day and a half, then have prints signed and distributed all within a weekend is nothing short of miraculous. AM was on hand to catch the entire process, from the blank canvas to the last ten minutes when the piece was laid flat to allow […]

Baby Tattooville ’14: Late Night Live Painting With Rick O’Brien

Burning the midnight oil, surprise guest Rick O’Brien invited us in to see some live model painting at Baby Tattooville last night. Working his two subjects through different poses, the portrait painter loosely laid forms onto his canvas as attendees watched. Taking into account the lateness of the hour, the rumored haunted nature of this particular room at the top of the Mission Inn, and the costumed nature of the models, the session was certainly something to remember from this year’s event. See full coverage of this […]

Baby Tattooville ’14: Live Screen Printing With Tara McPherson

Another highlight of the 8th annual Baby Tattooville is the live screen printing event with Tara McPherson and Andy Diesel from Diesel Prints. The prints will be part of the gift bag that all of the attendees will receive along with offerings from other artists. Take a look at more photos below of McPherson and Diesel in action… See full coverage of this year’s event here. Discuss Baby Tattooville here.

Baby Tattooville ’14: Show & Tell

It is Saturday afternoon, its 100 degrees and Baby Tatooville is turned all the way up. The event is in full mingle mode as attendees join and speak with artists as they create the personal works for this year’s gift bags. Besides getting a glimpse of the painters as they create, as people work through the room, they are greeted by the artists offering to sketch for them or sign prints, books or other memorabilia. Below are pictures including Brandi Milne sketching for a collector, […]

Baby Tattooville ’14: Secret Store

Every edition of Baby Tattooville includes a “Secret Store” where attendees (in order of their seniority at the event) are allowed to purchase art merchandise and even original works form the participating artists. The highlight of this year’s setup were paintings that were used for this year’s print set including an stunning piece from Joe Sorren (seen above). Take a look below at more shots of what was available… See full coverage of this year’s event here. Discuss Baby Tattooville here.

Baby Tattoville ’14: “Through The Looking Glass” @ Riverside Art Museum

Every year the city of Riverside, California plays host to Baby Tattooville, it is one of the highlights for the town and an unmistakable part of the personality of the event. The separation from Los Angeles and its art scene is part of what make the event so unique. The attendees are taken out of their environment and plunged into a Baby Tattoo world, populated by lowbrow artists, their creations and the people who love them. Each year, the Riverside Art Museum puts on an […]

Baby Tatooville ’14: Things Start to Get Intimate at the Artist Panel

Perhaps the most notable thing about Baby Tattooville is how personal it is. Unlike any other event on earth, attendees are invited to spend time with the artists, watch them create and in general everyone gets to know each other. What better way to get things going then to have the event organizer Bob Self introduce each artist, have them each say a little about themselves, their experiences with the event and what they plan on doing for this year’s event. Official participants this year include Brom, Laurie Lee Brom, […]

Baby Tattooville ’14: The Madness Begins!

The guests and artists are shuffling into the beautiful Mission Inn Resort as Baby Tattooville 2014 starts! All attendees are treated to their names being handwritten by a calligraphy artist for their name badges (actually limited edition prints from Joe Sorren), as well as receiving their official welcome kit. Below are pictures of some of the guests, as well as some of the artists like Brom, Laurie Lee Brom, Brandi Milne and Jeff Soto checking in for the event. The art retreat runs all weekend […]
