Openings: “Space//Squared” @ White Walls Gallery

Last month, White Walls Gallery in San Francisco opened a group exhibition entitled Space//Squared. Curated by Sven Davis, the showing was a followup to an event last year in Portland (covered). This time around, participating artists were again asked to contribute artwork in a 10 x 10″ format.  Along with pieces from over 100 artists (list seen below), Adam Friedman and Robert Minervini also created a site-specific installation featuring a series of paintings interspersed throughout mural elements. Roster: 2501, Adam Friedman, Adam Weir, Akiko Masker, Alex Lukas, Alicia Dubnyckyj, […]

Preview: Christina Empedocles – “A Unified Theory of Everything” @ David B. Smith

With an opening reception set for this Thursday, April 5th at the David B. Smith Gallery, we thought we would bring your attention to some new works from Christina Empedocles. A Unified Theory of Everything sees the SF-based artist continue to explore a wide range of subjects in the form of printed matter like old comics, movie posters, and nature periodicals. By rendering these in crumpled and folded forms, she adds a depth and extra layers of complexity to her two dimensional works. More preview […]

Previews: Christina Empedocles – “As Evidenced” @ David B. Smith Gallery

Check out a preview of Christina Empedocles’ latest body of work, titled “As Evidenced”, to premiere this Friday at Denver’s David B. Smith Gallery.  The charming works by Empedocles lures you in with a 3D feel created by her technique of rendering everyday objects on paper.  Utilizing subjects such as birds, animals, people, and even personal memorabilia set on simple plain paper, she masterfully constructs a nostalgic presence and a unique visual texture that is almost hyper-realistic to the viewer.  The show opens this Friday […]

Armory Week ’10: Scope New York

We attended the preview of Scope New York last Wednesday and visited the fair again on Saturday, and with the exception of stand-out booths by Anonymous, David B. Smith and newcomers Jackie Paper, found the fair to be somewhat disappointing overall. The show seemed small, not just relative to the enormous size of this year’s Armory Show, but compared with this year’s Scope Miami or last year’s Scope NY. And the overall selection and quality seemed to be down as well, with not a lot […]

The VIP preview for Scope NY 2010 opens later today, and AM will certainly […]
