Openings: “SuperAwesome: Art and Giant Robot” @ Oakland Museum of California

Last weekend, the Oakland Museum of California opened a new exhibition, entitled SuperAwesome: Art and Giant Robot, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the art and culture magazine Giant Robot. Along with a diverse selection of GR branded paraphenalia and publications, artists who have been involved with them over the years contributed original artwork as well as some wall murals. A relatively new and fresh gallery in the Lower East Side of NYC, Two Rams (headed by Tali Wertheimer and Brandon Coburn), currently has a show by the young and talented painter Ryan Schneider. Showing: Berndnaut Smilde – “Antipode” @ Ronchini Gallery

We first introduced you to Berndnaut Smilde’s work last year, when a video was released documenting the Amsterdam-based artist’s amazing process of creating “clouds” indoors. Fans in London now have the opportunity to see some of the Dutch artist’s work in person as he is currently showing at Ronchini Gallery. Openings: “Steer Ahead” @ Soze Gallery

Over the weekend, an exhibition to benefit CAMP2E opened at the Soze Gallery entitled Steer Ahead. Artists like Dave Kinsey (seen above), Victor Castillo, Cyrcle., Devngosha, James Haunt, Brittany Segal, Dan Quintana, Bon Nielsen, Gregory Siff, Aaron De La Cruz, Paige Smith, Kristin Bauer, RETNA, Sarah Sandin, Aaron De la Cruz, Bone Thrower, Cole Sternberg, and Fidia Falaschetti were asked to customize and paint real steer skulls and display it along with original artwork. Showing: Jonathan Yeo – “Portraits” @ The Lowry

For those who missed Jonathan Yeo’s exhibition (covered) at the National Portrait Gallery in London, you may want to head north to The Lowry in Manchester. Portraits sees the British artist’s work travel up for another museum showing, featuring many of his most famous subjects including Kevin Spacey, Damien Hirst, Helena Bonham Carter, George Bush (cast in one of Yeo’s porn-infused collages), and others. Armory Week ’14: Scope

One of the satellite fairs we make a point to catch during Armory Week is Scope. Hosting a variety of genres, the event featured a diverse mix of street art, low brow and emerging contemporary art working together as gallerists brought work from artists which you may be familiar with here on AM. Openings: Doma – “Multiverse” @ Logo Galeria

After taking part in This is Not a Toy show (covered) curated by Pharrell Williams, the Argentine collective Doma recently opened an exhibition at Logo Galeria in Sao Paulo. Titled Multiverse, this is their first solo in Brazil, and a big step forward towards introducing their work to a wider crowd. Tonight in Los Angeles, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be opening a new show entitled 50 Shades Of Black at Subliminal Projects. The exhibition is centered around the third installment (also see 2011 & 2012) of new album cover artwork, a series of works that Shep is know for, inspired by the 12-inch record cover format. Along with original hand painted multiples, there will also be a box set of screen prints available each containing the 50 new designs.
