Customs: Joe Ledbetter – Dissected Mutant Bunny

Ever since when he started in 2011, Joe Ledbetter has continually adding to his custom painted Mutant Bunny series (examples here, here, and here). Featuring arguably the Los Angeles-based artist’s most beloved character, each of these art objects have been painstakingly painted in creative manifestations of the original form, sometimes mirrored in paintings past or future. Upcoming: “Giant Robot Biennale 3” @ Japanese American National Museum

Next Saturday night (September 23), the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles will be presenting Giant Robot Biennale 3, its third show (see 2009) in conjunction with Eric Nakamura (interviewed), the founder of Asian American pop culture purveyor Giant Robot. This year’s exhibition highlights the works of emerging artists Rob Sato, Deth P. As you have seen in our previous coverage (here & here), Joe Ledbetter has been painting a series of mutant bunny sculptures. Releases: Joe Ledbetter – 12″ Mutant Bunny (Hand Painted) Part II

Several months ago, we brought your attention to the first set of hand-painted mutant bunny sculptures from Joe Ledbetter. The LA-based painter and art toy mogul has not released the next five of what will be an eventual total of 40. The 12″ figures (sculpted by Pretty in Plastic) are priced at $1500 and should be the crown jewel in the collection of any fan of Ledbetter’s three-dimensional work. Releases: Joe Ledbetter – 12″ Mutant Bunny (Hand Painted)

For those looking to round out their custom art figure collection, you’ll want to pay attention to this.  Joe Ledbetter is releasing a series of 40 hand-painted unique 12″ Mutant Bunny pieces (sculpted by Pretty in Plastic). Priced at $1500, the nicely sized pieces are priced reasonably considering what his customs go for on the market. In addition, the paint job seems to take to the resin better when compared to vinyl. Teaser: Ron English Custom Dunny Painting @ Kidrobot (New York)

This Thursday, July 14th (6-8pm), Ron English (featured) will be at the Kidrobot in New York to do some live painting. However, the “canvas” will be a four foot dunny of which the pop artist should have no difficulty with dispite its uneven surface. Ron was just in London for his Lazarides show (covered), so this will be a chance for NYC fans to get reacquainted. Discuss Ron English here.

Preview: “WE HEART WOOD Jibibuts Custom Show” @ Munky King

The “WE HEART WOOD” customs show opens tonight, April 8th, at Munky King in Melrose with dynamic duo Noferin inviting 30 of their artists friends to customize their latest blind box mini wood toys – Jibibuts. Not all artists have what it takes to paint on 3D surfaces, but masters of the art like Jeremiah Ketner, Doktor A, Dan May, Yoskay Yamamoto, and Stella Im Hultberg make it look easy with an awesome collection little works of art.
