Previews: disConnect Project (London)

Schoeni Projects in collaboration with HK Walls presents disCONNECT, an exhibition featuring ten international artists with site specific installations inside a Victorian townhouse in South West London. Opening during the COVID-19 pandemic, the show reflects on the creative and physical constraints of the current global crisis, exploring psychological and political reactions to the crisis, as well as the role of technology as conduit between the two. Full list of participating artists includes Adam Neate (UK), Aida Wilde (Iran), Alex Fakso (Italy), MR CENZ (UK), David Bray (UK), […]

Previews / Interviews: House Warming @ Athen B. Gallery

This Saturday sees a new gallery in the city of Oakland open its doors with a group exhibition entitled House Warming. When Athen B. Gallery first announced its arrival on the scene last month with an open letter to artists and the community it sits within, we were intrigued. The inaugural group show features Aubrey Learner, Brett Flanigan, Caleb Hahne, Cannon Dill, Dan Hampe, David Bray, Eric Bailey, ESK, Ian Johnson, Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada, Katherine Rutter, Lauren Napolitano, Lauren YS, Martina Merlini, Meryl Pataky (detail of her neon […]

Openings: “Space//Squared” @ White Walls Gallery

Last month, White Walls Gallery in San Francisco opened a group exhibition entitled Space//Squared. Curated by Sven Davis, the showing was a followup to an event last year in Portland (covered). This time around, participating artists were again asked to contribute artwork in a 10 x 10″ format.  Along with pieces from over 100 artists (list seen below), Adam Friedman and Robert Minervini also created a site-specific installation featuring a series of paintings interspersed throughout mural elements. Roster: 2501, Adam Friedman, Adam Weir, Akiko Masker, Alex Lukas, Alicia Dubnyckyj, […]

Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. The work was hung on the walls in grids of 24 cards, each echoing the aspect ratio of the individual works themselves as each work was 6×4 inches. The variance of work encompassed photography […]

Previews: “Wider than a postcard” @ Breeze Block Gallery

On the back of his Space//Form group exhibition last year (covered), Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis is working with Breeze Block Gallery in Portland again on another huge group event entitled Wider than a postcard. With over 200 artists and 400 individual works, this exhibition looks to be both bigger than the previous event and also smaller at the same time as all of the artworks are postcard sized at 6×4 inches. Each artist is either making work on a found / owned postcard and adapting / adding […]

Absolut Blank

Jeremy Fish (featured), who just had a solo show in New York (covered), was also recently one of the artists involved with the Abolut Blank project. The vodka brand from Sweden has long been associated with artist collaborations, some of which we have feature before (Asbestos, Steve “ESPO” Powers, Chiho Aoshima) here on AM. Other artists who participated include David Bray, Dave Kinsey, Brett Amory, Sam Flores, and Fernando Chamarelli. Take a look at their creations as well as a video after the jump…

Preview / Setup: David Bray – ‘Disasters of the 20th Century’ @ StolenSpace

AM called into StolenSpace yesterday to see how the installation of David Bray’s solo show Disasters of the 20th Century was coming together. We enjoy the variety of elements Bray uses within his work, often weaving a selection of found materials and ephemera into his drawings, both inside and out the frame. What we saw at the gallery was a slight departure from his previous work that we’ve seen. Disasters narrows the focus of the work into a series of more traditional drawn and rendered […]

Openings: StolenSpace Summer Group Show

AM got to the opening of StolenSpace’s annual Summer Group Show last week to find a line of people queuing out of the door! A packed house came out to see what we found to be a very strong grouping of work from an interesting mix of artists, some old StolenSpace favorites, but a lot fresh names – some new to the gallery, and some new to the London scene. Chloe Early is one of our favorite painters from the StolenSpace roster, and her new […]

Openings: Attention Spam @ Adapta Gallery

A little late news, but “Attention Spam” opened last month in Hong Kong at the launch of Adapta Gallery (A collaboration between Schoeni Art Gallery Hong Kong and UKAdapta London). This group show featured the works of Cyclops, David Bray, Vesna Parchet as well as Word to Mother and D*face (seen above). Adapta Gallery hopes to bring more exposure of urban art scene to what we think will be a very receptive audience in Hong Kong.
