Streets: Andreas Englund // Urban Nation (Berlin)

Painting over the course of five days for Urban Nation, Andreas Englund’s latest creation is a clever take on Rodin’s sculpture The Kiss. Pairing the iconic piece from the French sculptor with his own Voyeur sculpture, the two part mural (at Bülowstraße 93) executed with an expert three-dimensional perspective is a striking piece with commentary on modern society. Openings: Jedediah Voltz – “Somewhere Small” @ Virgil Normal

Back in April, Virgil Normal in Los Angeles hosted a brief showing of miniature “tree” houses from Jedediah Voltz. His whimsical structures embedded in the branches of common household plants (such as succulents) featured a high level of detail to include tiny furniture, pots, rugs, and other accessories. As a creative outlet for his commercial prop making experience, the series of tiny domiciles is obviously a labor of love, something his audience appreciated leading to an almost sold out opening night. Last week, Art Gathering LA, a tattoo convention that also presented artworks from across the globe from over 400 of the world’s leading tattooists, was hosted by the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach. For the inaugural event, Ron English (featured) was invited in to create a piece to mark the occasion. The New York-based artist chose to take one of his signature Temper Tot images and change it up by creating a mashup between the baby hulk and Tupac, the result which he dubbed Temper Pac. As per usual with the elusive British art superstar, a new piece by Banksy was discovered out of nowhere at Bridge Farm Primary School in Bristol this morning. The work was done as a thank you gift to the children that named one of the houses after him. A few weeks ago, the school ran a competition to change house names, and ended up deciding to name them after Bristol legends. Last month, KP Projects // MKG in West Hollywood hosted the opening for the latest solo from Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured). Entitled Beyond Shadows, the new pieces continue the locally-based artist’s surreal explorations of hybrid creatures rendered in a vivid palette. Painted with the support of Sky Art Foundation and Mural Social Club, this latest mural from Aaron Li-Hill (interviewed) is entitled The Impact Of Discovery. Featuring some of the American artist’s signature motion-inspired imagery, the piece put up on the side of the Cultural Center of Ukraine’s largest science and technical school (Kiev Polytechnical Institute) celebrates two major discoveries within the last two centuries. Victoria Miro in London is currently hosting a new exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Yayoi Kusama. Spanning the gallery’s three locations and waterside garden, the exhibition features new paintings, pumpkin sculptures, and immersive room experiences, all made especially for this showing. This is the artist’s most extensive exhibition at the gallery to date, and it is the first time mirror rooms have gone on view in London since Kusama’s major retrospective at Tate Modern in 2012. Currently at the Legion of Honor, The Future of the Past: Mummies and Medicine is showing through August 2018 featuring RETNA’s (featured) distinct script in the background. The Los Angeles-based graffiti artist’s work has always been compared to and influenced in part by Egyptian hieroglyphs, so his career has come a full circle now with an invitation by the museum in San Francisco to paint the walls surrounding the exhibition. Os Gemeos Designs Felipe Massa Helmet

For this year’s Monoco GP, Os Gemeos have designed a special helmet for fellow countryman and Formula One driver Felipe Massa. With the relaxing of the rule forcing drivers to keep a single helmet design for a whole year (now allowed one special set of colors once per season), the Brazilian racer took advantage and asked the artistic duo to create the imagery for the new headwear including a painted version of his wife and son on the top.
