Releases: KAWS – “Man’s Best Friend” Print Set

Pace Prints just announced their newest print release with KAWS. Man’s Best Friend is a monumental set of 10 black and white screenprints, similar to the installation shown at his 2014 show at Honor Fraser Gallery (covered). Based on Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts, the prints are KAWS’ take on the popular cartoon. By combining macro views of lines that comprise of the forms of Snoopy, Woodstock and friends, along with his signature XX, the Brooklyn-based artist created appealing abstract images. Five prints are produced in a “regular” black on white colorway, and five are negatives, like […]

Showing: Brian Willmont – “Chaos and Wild Again” @ Vicori + Mo

Victori + Mo gallery in New York is currently showing Chaos and Wild Again by local artist Brian Willmont. Along with working with him on a solo exhibition, the gallery also recently successfully introduced his work with a booth at the Volta Art Fair during Armory Week in New York. The new work is based on combining the aspects of trompe l’oeil and airbrush in a unique style of graphic abstraction. This concept culminates with a wallpaper installation in which two canvas works are incorporated. The combination of the two styles is accomplished with stencils prepared […]

Jonathan Yeo Portrait Of Kevin Spacey For “House Of Cards” // National Portrait Gallery

At the end of last month, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. unveiled a portrait of actor Kevin Spacey painted by Jonathan Yeo that will be on view through October. The event featured an appearance by Yeo as well as Spacey in character as Frank Underwood in his role for Netflix’s hit series House of Cards, marking the first time a fictional president had a painting of them hung in the portrait gallery of the institution (although not in the hall of real presidential portraits). The work continues a […]

Openings: Camille Rose Garcia – “Animus Chrysalis Mortis” @ Roq La Rue

Opening last week, Camille Rose Garcia’s Animus Chrysalis Mortis takes viewers to vibrant and lush gardens while exploring many of life’s tropes including creation and death. There is no subtlety with the LA-based artist’s journey, as seen through the lens of an acid trip seemingly lit by black lights. The exhibition features mixed media paintings on board and smaller pieces on paper. The late David Bowie graces two pieces and the enormous House of Psyche seems to fill an entire wall with serpents and swans. Adorning the […]

Streets: Phlegm (New Zealand) – Part II

Phlegm has made good use of his visit to New Zealand to get up some of his signature imagery. Along with a piece in Dunedin, he also painted a larger piece in Wellington on the side of a building where sound heads were made for movie projectors. He incorporated one of his characters with one of these devices as one of the elements that formed a large head. Take a look at more photos below… Photo credit: StreetKiwi (via StreetArtNews). POW! WOW! Hawaii ’16 / Streets: Slinkachu

After a look (here & here) at most of the murals painted for this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii, we now focus in on some of the work for the event that you may have missed. Created on a miniature level by Slinkachu, the tiny sculptures were scattered and hidden in plain site around Oahu, including underneath some of the muralists, leading to some interesting collaborations. Take a look at more of the pieces created by the UK-based street artist especially for Hawaii in the photos below […]
