For fans in Los Angeles who looked at Hong Kong in envy as Florentijn Hofman’s giant “rubber” duck (covered) rolled into the harbor, your time has come. The whimsical inflatable childhood bath toy will be viewable at the Tall Ships Festival from August 20-24 starting today when the oversized duck (61 feet, 11 tons, about 85 feet wide and about 110 feet long) will lead the Grand Parade of Sail into San Pedro at 2 pm. Currently on view through June 9th at Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour is Florentijn Hofman’s giant inflatable duck, providing an interesting contrast to the spectacular skyline view. The project from the Dutch artist known for his large-scale outdoor sculptures originated in 2007 and has since traveled the world, hitting cities like Sao Paulo, Auckland, Sydney, and Osaka.
