Showing through April of next year at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is an exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of Hello Kitty. After opening and closing a comprehensive retrospective (covered) at the MOCA Taipei, Gary Baseman (interviewed) moved on to revealing his latest project. At the recent Fashion Week New York, Coach unveiled their new Spring 2015 RTW collection which featured the Los Angeles-based artist’s imagery. The line included his signature creatures emblazoned on bags, used on prints and repeating patterns, and even knitted into sweaters. Last month, Gary Baseman (interviewed) opened a comprehensive retrospective show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei. Entitled The Door Is Always Open, the exhibition mirrored the delightful showing of the same name last year in Los Angeles (covered). Along with over 500 selected pieces, his largest collection of work in one place yet, the opening also included an art performance with his “WildGirls” with a new dance and musical composition.
