Showing: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Submerged” @ Times Square (Hong Kong)

At the end of last month, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) unveiled a major installation and show at one of Hong Kong’s busiest thoroughfares – Time Square. Presented by LeBasse Projects, the project featured two large heads, recognizably from the LA-based artist’s imagery, as well as other surrounding Submerged sculptures. On September 27th, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) will be unveiling new sculptural installations in Hong Kong’s Time Square. Presented by LeBasse Projects, the large heads (see below) that look like the ones often seen in the LA-based artist’s work will be interacting with passer-bys in one of the busiest areas in Causeway Bay. Upcoming: Mr. – “Sweet!” @ Galerie Perrotin (Hong Kong)

AM last attended a comprehensive show from Japanese artist Mr. about this time last year in New York (covered), so it’s nice to see that it is time for another solo exhibition. Held this time closer to home at the Galerie Perrotin’s Hong Kong branch and set to open on October 4th, Sweet! will feature his acrylic on canvas works of preadolescent girls often seen in Japanese sub-culture from manga, anime, to video games. Streets: INSA for The Vaford Gates (Hong Kong)

Earlier this month, the UK-based INSA returned to Hong Kong for a set of murals at The Vaford Gates in Chai Wan. If you remember, the street artist know for his heel motifs had a show in the city-state in 2011 at the Above Second Gallery. The project at this former old factory building location plans to feature a rotating cast of local and international artist so we’ll be sure to see more action soon… Discuss INSA here.

Upcoming: Hajime Soriyama @ AISHONANZUKA

The last time we saw a full scale exhibition (covered) from Hajime Soriyama, it was 2011 in New York. This time around, the show featuring 10 selected pieces from his legendary 40 year career will be held at AISHONANZUKA in Hong Kong. Stop by at the opening on September 7th to observe for yourself the Japanese artist’s masterful skills with the airbrush as well as his now famous take on robots and eroticism. Via Hypebeast. Openings: Jean-Michel Basquiat @ Gagosian (Hong Kong)

To coincide with the opening of Art Basel Hong Kong (covered), the local Gagosian Gallery branch has opened up a new exhibition of Jean Michel-Basquiat’s work, a first for the former British colony. On display were multiple paintings, some large, from the late great New York-based graffiti artist, with a showing similar to the one held at the NY Gagosian earlier this year (covered).
