Previews: Joel Rea – “Beasts of Arcadia” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Tomorrow night (September 12th), Jonathan LeVine Gallery (529 West 20th Street) will be hosting the opening of Beasts of Arcadia, a new solo from Joel Rea. The predominant imagery from this new body of work features human figures and tigers, placed in environments that are actively hostile to their existence. Since our Art Focus on painter Joel Rea, he has since exhibited with Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York as well as released prints of two of his popular images – Moment of Truth & Elevation. Currently, the Australia-based artist has a new piece (seen above), The Final Pieces, showing at the Art Gallery of New South Wales which was nominated as a finalist for the prestigious Sulman Prize. Upcoming: “Based on Actual Events” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Two artists that we have had our eyes on for a while that were featured in some of our previous Art Focus articles, Eloy Morales (focus) & Joel Rea (focus) will be part of a group show this weekend at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Based on Actual Events also includes Alyssa Monks and Diego Koi, with all four artists showing particular skill with hyper-realism. If Morales’ work above piques your interest, plan to attend the opening on Saturday night, January 11th.
