With Basel Week Miami fast approaching, it’s time to start turning our attention towards giving you a preview of the festivities for this year. Tomorrow night (September 12th), Jonathan LeVine Gallery (529 West 20th Street) will be hosting the opening of Beasts of Arcadia, a new solo from Joel Rea. The predominant imagery from this new body of work features human figures and tigers, placed in environments that are actively hostile to their existence. Interesting, many of these elements are collaged together from photographs that the Australia-based artist takes and then paints in great detail embedded in their surreal surroundings and situation. Two artists that we have had our eyes on for a while that were featured in some of our previous Art Focus articles, Eloy Morales (focus) & Joel Rea (focus) will be part of a group show this weekend at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Based on Actual Events also includes Alyssa Monks and Diego Koi, with all four artists showing particular skill with hyper-realism.
