Showing: Os Gêmeos – ‘In the Corner of the Mind’ @ Lehmann Maupin (London)

Almost unbelievably, In The Corner Of The Mind is Os Gêmeos’ first solo show in the UK. The exhibition at Lehmann Maupin’s new London outpost allows the viewer to once again dive into the twin’s playful, personal universe created from small memories which they call Tritez.  A large canvases which shares its name with that of the exhibition depicts a head supported by crutches and, as a result, is strongly suggestive of Salvador Dalí’s Le Sommeil (Sleep). For Dali, the crutches hint at the fragility […]

Openings: Tracey Emin – “I Followed You To The Sun” @ Lehmann Maupin (26th Street))

Tracey Emin recently revealed a duo gallery show at New York’s Lehmann Maupin. Entitled I Followed You To The Sun, this massive show featuring 100 works of art was displayed at both it’s 26th Street and Chrystie Street gallery locations. We had the pleasure of visiting the 26th St. location to view a diverse selection of mediums which the YBA (Young British Artist) alumnus created for this showcase, including paintings, drawings and of course her signature neon installation. At the center of this exhibition is seven […]

Openings: Mr. – “Metamorphosis: Give Me Your Wings” @ Lehmann Maupin

On Thursday, Kaikai Kiki artist Mr. returned for a second showing with New York’s Lehmann Maupin Gallery. The former protégé of Takashi Murakami put forth a more serious body of work entitled Metamorphosis – Give Me Your Wings that was reflected in a dense installation that literally littered the space with common pop & household objects. At the center of the exhibition space was a gigantic caterpillar created by these items, which is intended to convey the current state of Japan’s metamorphosis in contrast to the perceived […]

Showing: Do Ho Suh – “Home Within Home” @ Lehmann Maupin

Currently showing at Lehmann Maupin is Home Within Home, the latest exhibition by Korean artist Do Ho Suh. The show is centered around two amazing sculptural installations that each deal with the artist’s feelings of cultural displacement stemming from the time when he moved from Korea to the United States to study art. Suh physically represents the culture clash he experienced in the piece entitled Home Within Home: an incredibly detailed dollhouse version of his student home in Providence, RI, that has been partially destroyed […]

Openings: “Law of the Jungle” @ Lehmann Maupin

When AM came back from our adventures during Basel Week down in warm Miami, we were greeted back in New York by freezing temperatures. Fortunately, “the twins” made a trip back with us back to the Big Apple. We caught the opening night at Lehmann Maupin Gallery where a great group show curated by Tiago Carneiro da Cunha was on display. The show’s central theme was “survival of the fittest” and featured Efrain Almeida, Caetano de Almeida, Ashley Bickerton, Joshua Callaghan, Marcos Chaves, Saint Clair Cemin, […]
