Currently at David Zwirner’s uptown location in New York (34 East 69th Street), Lisa Yuskavage has a solo show on view featuring a series of eight new works. Showing in association with a survey of small-scale paintings from the American artist in the gallery’s Chelsea location, New Paintings features portraits of mostly couples rendered in her hedonistic style and with her characteristic emotive use of color. The townhouse space was a great venue choice as it is the perfect setting for the domestic and intimate scenes that populate Yuskavage’s new pieces. […]

Showing: Lisa Yuskavage @ David Zwirner

David Zwirner in New York is currently showing recent paintings and pastels from Lisa Yuskavage at their 533 West 19th Street location. Inspired by hippies and her experiences growing up in the 70s, the locally-based painter has produced a vibrant new body of work that for the first time includes men in her portraiture. Known for her intensely hued renderings of nude voluptuous women, Yuskavage provocative new work does not disappoint, especially her larger pieces that seem to be set in a fantasy world. Basel Week Miami ’11: Art Basel – First Look (Part II)

With so much eye candy at the main fair, we had to split out photos into two helpings. Headlining this second set are these clusters from Bay Area legend Barry McGee at the Cheim & Read booth featuring some abstract representations of spray cans arranged in a new way with some novel patterns. Other strong pieces seen were a unique piece from Mark Ryden utilizing a new technique, an oil from Lisa Yuskavage, various shiny objects from Anish Kapoor, and much more. See it all […]

Openings: Lisa Yuskavage – “New Paintings” @ David Zwirner

AM recently witnessed the return of Lisa Yuskavage to David Zwirner as the New York based artist unveiled a new series of paintings in her third show with the gallery since 2006. Seen were her classic female nudes depicted in cartoonish yet erotic compositions. The color palettes she selected were vibrant, rich and diverse which complimented her wide selection of environments well. Ranging from outdoor to indoor settings, the Yuskavage placed her psychologically-charged characters in a variety of situations to draw the viewers into the […]

As with her show last year in London, she continues to explore her portraitures of the female nude, all painted with her signature lush and erotic touch.  For this exhibiton, the NY-based artist also appears to incorporate more elements of landscape and still-life painting into her narrative including a large triptych, the first time for her in this format. Openings: Lisa Yuskavage @ Greengrassi Gallery

AM favorite Lisa Yuskavage is currently exhibiting at London’s Greengrassi Gallery. The New York based artist comes at us with another collection of dazzling works featuring her ever sultry figures of women in their natural state. What’s really cool is that she’s continuing to create smaller works to compliment the larger canvases which already run a pretty penny (hundreds of thousands), much like this gem we saw at David Zwirner from last year’s Art Basel Miami. Check out this breathtaking parade of paintings after the […]

Weekend Chelsea gallery stroll

Its been a while, but this weekend, AM was lucky to be able to take the day to stroll around Chelsea, popping into any and every gallery that looked interesting. Over the course of the afternoon, two shows stood out: Lisa Yuskavage at David Zwirner and Paul Morrison at Cheim & Read. Yuskavage quickly became well known in the mid to late 1990’s for her overtly sexualized portraits of shapely women. For this show, her second for Zwirner, Yuskavage includes such portraits, some with faces […]
