Streets: Trustocorp (Los Angeles)

Street collective Trustocorp recently unleashed a new bus stop campaign in their usual tongue-in-cheek manner. The urban interventions were installed at various benches up and down Los Angeles, even with one that mirrored the imagery of the piece they put in our Beverly Hills group show, City of Fire, a while back. Openings: Parra – “Kind Regrets” @ HVW8

Over the weekend, Dutch artist Piet Janssen aka Parra brought his bizarre and voluptuous imagery to Los Angeles for all enjoy with a showing at the HVW8 Gallery. Entitled Kind Regrets, the exhibition included paintings, drawings, sculptural items as well as murals on the exterior of the West Hollywood showspace. To the delight of all who attended, Parra was happy to interact with, sketch, and talk to his well wishers, collectors, and fans. Jen Stark – “To the Power Of” @ Martha Otero

Yesterday, Jen Stark’s To the Power Of exhibition kicked off at the Martha Otero Gallery, her first solo ever in Los Angeles. Featuring the locally-based artist signature papercut sculptures, the complex multi-colored creations charmed attendees to the showing all night long. Upcoming: Jacub Gagnon – “More Human Than Human” @ Thinkspace

In November, Jacub Gagnon (interviewed) makes his return to Thinkspace with a new showing entitled More Human Than Human. After a joint showing there in May of last year, the Toronto-based painter will be filling the project room of the Culver City showspace with his surreal take on the natural world. Upcoming: Sylvia Ji – “La Catrina” @ CHG Circa

For those fans of  Sylvia Ji (interviewed) out there who particularly liked her “Day of the Dead” imagery, you are in luck. She will be opening a new solo on November 3rd (the Saturday right after the actual Mexican Holiday) at the new CHG Circa Gallery. Presumably, La Catrina will feature paintings from the Los Angeles-based artist centered around the masks, skulls, iconagraphy and other imagery associated with “Dia de los Muertos”. Upcoming: Parra – “Kind Regrets” @ HVW8 Gallery

On September 29th, Dutch artist Piet Janssen (better known as Parra) will be opening a new show at the HVW8 Gallery in Los Angeles entitled Kind Regrets. On display will be new works featuring his distinctive saturated colors and characters – namely men with beaked heads and voluptuous women. Coming up on the 29th of September, Tran Nguyen (above) and Stella Im Hultberg (below) will join forces for a dual showing at the Thinkspace Gallery entitled Borrowed Memories. Nguyen will be presenting new paintings featuring her surreal and dreamy imagery, while the NY-based Hultberg will be bringing her enticing portraiture mixed in with some sculptural elements. Streets: Cyrcle. – “Magic Is Real” (Los Angeles)

During the past month, the art collective known as Cyrcle. had been secretly working on what is perhaps one of the biggest murals in Los Angeles standing today. Finished in the last week or so and now unveiled, the piece titled Magic Is Real is a precursor to the group’s upcoming solo show happening in mid-November. Openings: Martin Wittfooth – “Empire” @ Corey Helford Gallery

A couple nights ago in Culver City, the NY-based Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) brought his dystopian visions to the Corey Helford Gallery with a new solo showing entitled Empire. Openings: Lucien Smith – “Seven Rain Paintings” @ OHWOW

Over the weekend, OHWOW in Los Angeles unveiled Lucien Smith’s first solo exhibition in the US – Seven Rain Paintings. As the simple title implies, the exhibition focuses on the NY-based artist’s signature rain paintings (first introduced in 2011 here on AM), created by filling an extinguisher with paint and then mimicking a pattern of precipitation in the application onto canvas.
