Releases: Camille Rose Garcia – “Sneewittchen” Print

Tomorrow (April 5th) at 12 noon PST, Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed) will be releasing a new print entitled Sneewittchen. As the second in her series of mini-prints, this 10″ x 10″ edition limited to 50 is meant for collectors with a modest budget ($100). Update: Mark Ryden

For those waiting for the postponed show (now slated for later this year) in Los Angeles from the great Mark Ryden, there have been side projects to keep your love for renowned lowbrow painter alive. These included a comprehensive book, a print release, an album cover design, and a painting for charity. Now, we get a glimpse of something else he is working on – little meat sculptures.  Only time will tell if these are for the upcoming solo or for some other endeavor. Discuss Mark Ryden here.

Preview: Scott Radke – “Interface” @ Stranger Factory

This Friday (April 5th) in Albuquerque, the Stranger Factory will be exhibiting all new works from Scott Radke (interviewed). Entitled Interface, the new sculptures from the Cleveland-based artist will feature the distinctive use of burlap and clay for his surreal and anthropomorphized renditions of animals. Along with all original sculpts, there will also be some customized skelves – all featuring his eerily expressive faces. Openings: Joe Sorren – “The Great Cantaloupe Day” @ AFA (New York)

For those who missed the Joe Sorren (featured) exhibition which just closed at AFA in New York, AM has you covered with some opening photos. The Great Cantaloupe Day featured a couple new paintings from the respected painter (now based in NYC) as well as a vast selection of archived limited edition offerings and sculptural works. Upcoming: Ray Caesar @ CHG Circa

On the 13th of April, CHG Circa will be hosting a new solo from digital specialist Ray Caesar (interviewed). The exhibition looks to be the Toronto-based artist’s first major showing in Los Angeles since his special engagement in Beverly Hills last December at Stephen Webster. Teaser: Greg Simkins – “Stop Haunting Me” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

On April 6th, the Merry Karnowsky in Los Angeles (also see 2012) will be hosting a new solo show from the locally based Greg Simkins (featured). Known as Craola to his legion of fans, the surrealist painter will be unleashing fresh new works collectively entitled Stop Haunting Me, a celebration of the 20th anniversary of his moniker. Openings: Direct Address @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last week, we attended Joshua Liner’s opening of his new Chelsea gallery with a group exhibition entitled Direct Address. The expansive ground-floor space was filled with a impressive collection of works by The Clayton Brothers, David Ellis,  Evan Hecox, Jean-Pierre Roy, Kris Kuksi (above), Richard Colman, Stephen Powers, SWOON, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Tony Curanaj and others. Upcoming: Travis Louie – “Monsters On Their Day Off” @ Roq La Rue

After a successful showing at the Roq La Rue Gallery back in 2011 (covered), vintage surreal painter Travis Louie (interviewed) will be returning to give his fans in Seattle another look at his amazing works. Based thematically on the title of the show, Monsters On Their Day Off, the new imaginary portraiture will give us a glimpse into the lives of his creatures, rendered in classic Louie fashion. Releases: Mondo’s “Game of Thrones” Posters

As we mentioned in our coverage of Mondo’s Game of Thrones group exhibition during SXSW, an extended series of limited edition posters were planned in conjunction with the event.
