Releases: James Jean – “Melon” Print

Next week, James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing a new print off his website in a time-limited manner, making it available for 12 hours starting at 8:00 AM PDT on Wednesday, May 25th and ending at 7:59 PM PDT. Melon was created to celebrate summer and will be sized at 27″ x 20″ (image size 24″ x 18″) with the price set at $200. Releases: Luke Chueh – “Bat Bear” Figure

After teasing us with a work-in-progress sculpt last year that will bring to life his Bat Bear painting in a three-dimensional form, it looks like Luke Chueh (interviewed) is set to release his latest art toy soon. More accurately named Gero-Hero or Bat-Bear, the acrylic and ink piece from 2006 featured the Los Angeles-based artist’s iconic sad bear disguised as the famous crime fighting mask crusader. Openings: Peter Ferguson – “Lifeboats of a Sinking Witch” @ Roq La Rue

For several years now, Peter Ferguson has left his his Canadian homeland to deliver a sold out, or nearly sold out show to the Roq La Rue Gallery.  2016 is no exception and Lifeboats of a Sinking Witch is another journey to the illustrator’s fantastic world. Seemingly painted under twilight, each piece is completed with a vintage frame and several are adored with a title face plate. Dave Kinsey Studio Sale

Every once in a while, an artist will put on a studio sale to give fans a chance to add prints, originals, and other related paraphernalia at a reasonable price. This weekend, it was Dave Kinsey’s turn to offer up some items for in a fires sale ranging from pieces canvas and paper. Upcoming: Paco Pomet – “Recent Paintings” @ Richard Heller Gallery

For his third solo with Richard Heller Gallery, Paco Pomet will be presenting some Recent Paintings that continue his now well known modus operandi. The Granada-based artist creates works of art that look like loosely rendered vintage photos and landscapes that have unusual color accents or delightful surreal elements that can be seen when examined more closely. The opening is scheduled for May 14th for those interested in the Los Angeles area.

Releases: Dan May – “Road Trippin'” Print

On May 12th, this Thursday (12pm EST), Dan May (interviewed) will be releasing a new print entitled Road Trippin’ featuring some of his signature hairy critters going for a ride. Originally part of his Gentle Creatures print subscription but a few will be made available in his online shop. Previews: Mike Leavitt – “King Cuts” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Returning to Jonathan LeVine Gallery after a successful showing there in 2013 (covered), Mike Leavitt (interviewed) will be presenting a new body of work come May 14th. Entitled King Cuts, the new sculptures focus on renowned directors, molded in a way that recalls some of their most famous movies.
