Recap: Lucy Sparrow – ‘Bourdon Street Chemist’ @ Lyndsey Ingram

The latest incarnation of Lucy Sparrow’s felt installations saw the Suffolk-based artist recreate a fully stocked drugstore selling everything from luxury perfume to hemorrhoid cream at Lyndsey Ingram Gallery in London. Bourdon Street Chemist was the artist’s seventh major exhibition where all the items have been rendered out of felt and it followed on from her similarly exhaustive reimagining of a Soho sex shop in 2015 and a New York bodega in 2018 (covered). Some items that grace the shelves, like shampoo and Band-Aids, are so […]

Showing: Lucy Sparrow – “Sparrow Mart” @ The Standard, DTLA

The Standard hotel in Downtown LA is currently hosting a big-scale West Coast debut of British artist Lucy Sparrow. As her fifth fully-felted art installation, Sparrow Mart opened doors on August 1st and will stay open for business until the end of the month. We say “open for business” because of the fact that this art installation is a fully functional supermarket, offering a wide range of everyday supplies entirely made from felt and fabric. From bubblegum, fruit and veggies, to different packaging of favorite snacks, […]

Customers will be invited to browse the aisles and do their regular grocery shopping, selecting fluffy editions of their favorite convenience store products. Every item you […]

Showing: Lucy Sparrow – “Shoplifting” @ Lawrence Alkin Gallery

On November 3rd, Lawrence Alkin Gallery opened Shoplifting, a new solo show by felt sculpture artist Lucy Sparrow. Inspired by the artist’s time spent working in a supermarket, the show will include a new range of daily products recreated as hand-crafted felt items. The “criminally good exhibition” focuses the spotlight on one of the most common everyday criminal acts – shoplifting aka the “five finger discount.” Taking a humorous look at themes of theft, the exhibition will include the most frequently robbed items in the UK as a commentary on types of people […]
