Video: “Destricted” Trailer

The controversial collection of shorts entitled Destricted was recently released onto DVD. The US version which features famed artists like Richard Prince and Marilyn Minter as directors consists of an ongoing series of films that explore the line where art and pornography intersect. When the UK version was released in 2006, it won awards at a range of international film festivals including Cannes, but encountered some problems predictably getting released in the States until now. Openings: Frieze Art Fair 2010 – Part II

We saw a lot at Frieze and we have to note that every fair we’ve been to Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin never fails to make in impact with their bold exhibits. Amongst the bustle we caught impressive works by Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Aya Takano, Tracy Emin, David La Chapelle and even a surprise appearance by Faile.

Openings: Frieze Art Fair 2010 – Part I

Like Basel week for Switzerland and Armory week for New York, London has a signature week for art and it’s centralized around the Frieze Art Fair. This year, AM made the trip out to catch the well produced affair which was overwhelming in the amount of art displayed. Like most major art fairs, we needed to go back after day one to soak in more visual goodness. On our first pass, we stumbled on some notable works from George Condo, fresh photos from Ryan McGinley and a new direction from […]

Openings: Youtube Play – “Biennial of Creative Video” @ Guggenheim Museum NYC

Last night, AM attended the opening celebration of the Youtube Play: a Biennial of Creative Video at the  Guggenheim Museum in New York. As previewed, the 23,000 videos were filtered down to “the Shortlist“ of 125 that were then whittled down to the final 25 winners. The museum was packed with patrons and art fans attending the inaugural ceremonies. Those in attendance were treated to an on-going light show that transformed the very architecture of the spiraling Guggenheim museum into a giant visual canvas. It seemed […]

Update: Marilyn Minters MAC Collab, Studio Party, and Video

If you recall, we recently showed you the mural that Ai Yamaguchi did for a Shu Uemura store in SF. Continuing on the trend of collaborations between artists and cosmetic companies, Marilyn Minter joins Fafi in promoting the brand MAC, with a campaign starting in August. MAC’s bold and rich colors match up very well Minter’s flashy, gritty and glamorous style as you can see from her latest show at Salon 94 (covered). MAC also recently celebrated their upcoming ad campaign with a party at Minter’s […]

Video: Marilyn Minter – “Green Pink Caviar”

Remember when we stopped by Salon 94 to bring you pics from photographer Marilyn Minter’s latest show Green Pink Caviar. Well, there was also a video that went along with the show (teaser seen above) that has been pretty popular on the internet.  In fact, Madonna (a Minter collector) liked it so much, she’s using it in her “Sticky & Sweet” tour.  “The opening song, ‘Candyshop,’ will be performed under a pair of giant luscious, pink lips licking and sucking on sparkly gold, orange, silver […]

Openings: Marilyn Minter – “Green Pink Caviar” @ Salon 94

AM stopped by Salon 94 to check out Marilyn Minter’s latest show “Green Pink Caviar.” One of our favorite photographers, Marilyn is again at her best with her signature style of showcasing glamor and its realistic underbelly. Through her unique vision, the viewer is transported to a world of vibrant colors and lusciously sexy subjects. Best known for her stunning photographs, Minter is also an accomplished painter and this body of work also features her largest photo-realistic painting to date. Continued after the jump…

Armory Week: Armory Art Show NYC

The ARMORY Art Show as it’s name implies, was literally a stockpile of the art world’s heavy artillery. With works from Damien Hirst, Yoshitomo Nara, Kara Walker, Kenny Scharf, Kehinde Wiley, Gilbert & George, Julian Opie, Marilyn Minters, Tom Sachs and many more, the stockade of high caliber art stretched the imagination. Much like Art Basel in Miami, we struggled to keep up with the long aisles filled with notable galleries such as White Cube, Emmanuel Perrotin, Honor Fraser, and Mizuma that all brought their […]

Art Basel Vernissage

After only being able to spend less than an hour at the Art Basel Miami 08 vernissage preview Wednesday night, AM went back to the fair yesterday, and this time, we took our time. For those not familiar with Art Basel, it’s like walking through the world’s biggest museum of modern and contemporary art, except everything is for sale. There are far too many amazing works of art to mention – everything from Picasso to Rothko to Warhol to Richard Prince, so we thought that […]
