Openings: Art Shack @ Laguna Art Museum

Last weekend, the Laguna Art Museum opened their doors to crowds of art fans anxious to check out the newest exhibition – Art Shack. The group show included installations by artists like Mike Shine (featured), Martin Wittfooth, Kenny Scharf, Clayton Brothers (featured), and Jeff Gillette (who showed recently in LA) with a fantastic three-dimensional representation of his signature “slum” imagery. It’s hard to believe it’s already been five years since one of our favorite magazines released their first issue. Just like Jonathan LeVine Gallery last month (covered), Hi-Fructose is celebrating their five year anniversary with a group show with artists that have been featured in their publication since the very beginning. Hot on the heels of Martin Wittfooth’s solo show, “Tempest”, opening last weekend at Copro Gallery (previewed here), Virtu Gallery has just released a new fine art edition from the New York based artist. “The Blind Fisherman”, one of AM’s favourite paintings by Wittfooth from last year – the original painting first seen at Jonathan Levine’s Beach Blanket Bingo 2009 summer group show (covered here) – is now available in signed and numbered editions of 40 on varnished paper and an uber-limited edition of 10 on varnished canvas. New York artist Martin Wittfooth’s show “Tempest” is set to open this Saturday night, February 14th in Santa Monica at the Copro Gallery. “Overdose” (previewed) opened this past Saturday at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. Upon entering the gallery, you will notice several great pieces from “Overdose” on display in the gallery’s front room. The majority of the exhibition’s body of work is displayed in the gallery’s main room. A table was set up over in the smaller wing of the gallery for the Hi-Fructose Collected Edition 1 book signing.
