Showing: Michael Kagan – “We Have Felt The Ground Shake” @ Bill Brady Gallery

Last month, Bill Brady in Miami opened a solo exhibition from Michael Kagan (featured) entitled We Have Felt The Ground Shake. For his first showing with the gallery, the Brookyln-based artist presented a new selection of his signature astronaut paintings, rendered with a loose touch. This time around, Kagan focuses in on the Apollo astronauts, specifically those that touched down on the moon with some of the paintings taking the names of spacemen depicted. He further explains – “The paintings can work on their own or tell a story when […]

Previews: Michael Kagan – “We Have Felt The Ground Shake” @ Bill Brady Gallery

This Friday night (March 23rd) in Miami, Michael Kagan (featured) will be presenting a new body of work at Bill Brady in his first showing with the gallery. We Have Felt The Ground Shake will continue the Brooklyn-based artist’s loose renderings of Apollo astronauts who have touched down on the moon, a metaphor for man’s triumph over nature. Kagan further explains – “The paintings can work on their own or tell a story when shown together. The Mercury astronauts were the test pilots the ones that showed man can […]

Studio Visits: Michael Kagan – “Lights Out” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

On February 11th, the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York will open a solo exhibition by Michael Kagan. Entitled Lights Out, this new body of work by the Brooklyn-based painter focuses on man’s moments of triumph over nature’s limits. As the name of the exhibition indicates, the Kagan pushes the boundaries of his amped up compositions to include situations in which there are nearly no margin for errors. One mistake/miscalculations would mean a literal end to the participant’s life. Expanding on his awe inspiring first show with the gallery (covered), Kagan […]

Openings: Michael Kagan – “Thunder in the Distance” @ Joshua Liner

We recently had the pleasure of visiting the painting studios of Brooklyn based artist Michael Kagan as he was preparing for his show at Joshua Liner Gallery. As it turns out, the final product was even more pleasing than we would have hoped. Entitled Thunder in the Distance, this exhibition focused on space travel and its various key components which make this seemingly impossible task of existing (temporarily) in space possible. Using inspiring brush and paint techniques, Kagan brings to life a subject that is constantly in the […]

Studio Visits: Michael Kagan – “Thunder in the Distance” @ Joshua Liner

AM recently had the pleasure of visiting the Brooklyn studio of painter Michael Kagan as he prepares for his upcoming exhibition at Joshua Liner Gallery which opens April 3rd. Entitled Thunder in the Distance, this latest body of work continues his exploration of space aviation. Known for painting with oils, Kagan employs an impasto technique which utilizes thick and deliberate strokes. From upclose, the paintings seem to be almost coming apart, but take a few steps back and it appears to re-form tightly into a […]
