Opening on October 10th at the Japanese American National Museum is Giant Robot Biennale 4, a group exhibition featuring works from artists curated by Eric Nakamura (interviewed), the man behind the Giant Robot brand. The fourth iteration (see 2009, 2012) of the show looks to be the most ambitious yet featuring artists like James Jean, Jim Lee, Kim Jung Gi, Katsuya Terada, Edwin Ushiro, and Yumi Sakagawa, among others. Baby Tattooville ’15: “Fade To Black” @ Riverside Art Museum

Tonight at the Riverside Art Museum, Fade To Black opened its door to the public after a private dinner reception on the roof of the museum. Upcoming: EVOL – “Mind the Gap” @ Krasnoyarsk Museum Biennale

For the upcoming Krasnoyarsk Museum Biennale in Russia, the Berlin-based EVOL has prepared a special installation featuring his signature reproduction of urban structures. The twist on this piece though, entitled Mind the Gap, is the red-tinged separation that runs right down the center of the buildings. Finally released from a house arrest by the government after 600 days on 22th of July, Ai Weiwei has been very active in the recent months. With this being the last week of the Invisible College group exhibition at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, now would be a good time for a recap. Co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery and Josef Zimmerman from the museum, the title references the fact that many of the artists on the roster didn’t take a traditional art education path to where their careers are now. Upcoming: Tauba Auerbach & Mark Fox @ Wisch Family Gallery (Stanford University)

On September 9th, Constructive Interference: Tauba Auerbach and Mark Fox will be opening at the Wisch Family Gallery at Stanford University. On loan from the Anderson family, the works from the mid-career contemporary artists who both graduated from the university will “explore ideas of process, material manipulation and chance” and encompass prints, paintings (one of Auerbach’s iconic fold paintings seen above), and sculpture. Upcoming: “Takashi Murakami’s Superflat Collection” @ Yokohama Museum of Art

Just like his friend KAWS, fellow artist Takashi Murakami will be putting part of his collection on display – scheduled for early next year at the Yokohama Museum of Art in Japan. His eclectic taste in art will be evident to visitors as works from from Shohaku and Rosanjin to Anselm Kiefer will be shown. Coming up on October 31st, Takashi Murakami will be unveiling his first solo exhibition in Japan in over 14 years. The title The 500 Arhats at the Mori Art Museum references the piece that will be the showstopper, a 100-meter-long painting which was created as a thank you to the nation of Qatar, one of the first to offer assistance after the earthquake and tsunami in 2011 in Japan.
