Previews: Jeff Soto – “The Sotofish Society” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Coming up next weekend, Jeff Soto (interviewed) will be returning to Jonathan LeVine Gallery for his fifth solo with the New York showspace. The new exhibition is kind of a nostalgic look back at the imagery that the Southern California-based artist has been sharing with his fans throughout his career – iconic characters like yetis, reapers, robots, walkers, and the Sotofish. On September 22nd, Allouche Gallery in New York will be opening a solo show from Ron English (featured) in their new Meatpacking District space. Three years in the making, the new body of work will be entitled Guernica, a fitting choice as he has painted his own pop-infused versions this masterpiece from Picasso over 50 times (including on the streets). Upcoming: Masakatsu Sashie – “External Effect” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

On October 15th, Masakatsu Sashie will be opening a new solo at Jonathan LeVine Gallery entitled External Effect. From the drawings you see on the Japanese artist’s table in the photo above, it looks as though he will be continuing his popular clustered globe works. Upcoming: Eddie Peake – “Head” @ Deitch Projects

On September 8th, Jeffrey Deitch will be re-opening his Wooster Street gallery with three nights of performances from Eddie Peake. By reputation, attendees to the RSVP only ([email protected]) events will be seeing the human body on display with live music and original compositions. Inspired by after seeing ENDYMION, the London-born artist’s performance for Performa 13, Deitch decided to inaugurate his return to the NY art scene with Peake’s explorations of voyeurism, sexuality and gender. Streets: Logan Hicks – Bowery & Houston Mural

Last weekend, the latest artist to paint a mural at the iconic Bowery & Houston corner in New York finished his weeks of hard work. Logan Hick’s piece entitled Story Of My Life features a crowd of people he photographed on the corner of Spring and Greene Street and is a testament to his impressive skills working with stencils.
