Openings: Faile x BÄST – “Deluxx Fluxx Arcade” @ Brooklyn Museum

After sharing photos from the Savage/Sacred Young Minds showing at the Brooklyn Museum with you last week, we now have an additional look at the arcade installation there from Faile (featured) and their long time collaborator Bast. After previous iterations seen in places like New York, Miami, Scotland, and London, this immersive experience finally makes an appearance in museum form. Consisting of video games, pinball machines, and foosball tables, the entire interactive environment with signatures imagery are designed by the artists down to the actual games. Discuss Faile here.

Openings: FAILE – “Savage/Sacred Young Minds” @ Brooklyn Museum

Last month, the Brooklyn Museum welcomed in the locally based duo Faile (featured) for a solo show entitled Savage/Sacred Young Minds. The exhibition showed off a wide range of works from the Patrick’s including their  Temple project that first made its appearance for PortugalArte ‘10, prayer wheels, large scale paintings, and more pieces all influenced by “a wide variety of sources, including American quilts, folk and Native American art, religious architecture, pulp magazines, comic books, sci-fi movie posters, adult entertainment advertisements, and storefront typography.” Included was also a revival of the Deluxx Fluxx Arcade (more on this […]

Showing: Os Gemeos – “Parallel Connection” @ Times Square (New York)

After tipping you off a few days ago about Os Gemeos’ three minutes of fame at New York’s Times Square, we now have some photos and video to share of their animation that runs from 11:57pm to midnight each night in August. The two brothers entitled the short clip Parallel Connection which features their signature yellow characters interacting with the screens and staring down at the mass of people at the busy intersection. Upcoming: Os Gemeos – “Parallel Connection” @ Times Square (New York)

Joining artists like Ryan McGinley and Tracey Emin before them, Brazilian sensations Os Gemeos will be presenting an animation of their characters starting tomorrow from 11:57pm to midnight each night in August at New York’s Times Square. Parallel Connection is the title of this new project, which will light up the electronic billboards of one of NYC’s most iconic intersections. Streets: Ron English (New York)

Back in 2012, we covered the first mural in Manhattan from Ron English (featured) in over 25 years, featuring his signature Temper Tot figure, a play on The Incredible Hulk. Over the last couple days, the New York-based artist has added a pink brother to the original piece on an adjacent wall for the L.I.S.A Project. Located on 114 Mulberry Street in Little Italy, the matching murals are dedicated to English’s kids Zephyr and Mars, the original Temper Tots. Discuss Ron English here.

Upcoming: Jose Parla – “Segmented Realities” @ The Standard, High Line

Starting on this Thursday, the Standard Hotel on The High Line will be be hosting new work from Jose Parla. Segmented Realities will be the Brooklyn-based artist’s first outdoor installation in New York and will consist of three two sided sculptural paintings that mirror the crumbling, graffiti covered walls that he sees and often documents on his travels. With the opening fast approaching at the end of next week, Faile (featured) has ramped up their setup for their solo at the Brooklyn Museum. Entitled Savage/Sacred Young Minds, the exhibition from the locally-based artistic duo will features a diverse selection of works from their oeuvre including multimedia installations, large-scale paintings, and sculptures as well as a revival of the Deluxx Fluxx Arcade with their long time collaborator Bast.
