Intricate, detailed, and elegant, Tahiti Pherson’s hand-cut monochromatic works on paper are currently on exhibition at Joseph Gross Gallery in NY’s Chelsea gallery district. Fans and admirers received a up-close and personal look at the fascinating pieces that the artist has made both in two and three-dimensions. The labor of love is on full display, as Pherson devotes an average of 100 hours for each of his works. See them for yourself in the images below and visit the gallery before the show ends on Oct 3.

The Los Angeles-based artist’s first solo with the gallery introduced fans in the area to his minimalistic aesthetic, emphasizing basic forms and plays on perspective. Discuss Geoff McFetridge here.

Studio Visit: Pryce Lee – “Ceasefire” @ The Garage

During our recent travels abroad to catch the opening of Banksy’s Dismaland, we also made a few stops to see friends of ours across the pond. One was a visit to Pryce Lee’s massive Birmingham compound that serves as both his lair and studio as he prepped for his upcoming show at Amsterdam’s The Garage. The exhibition entitled Ceasefire is a step up to another level for the bi-continental artist. Utilizing more than just his signature bullets, Pryce’s fresh works reaches into his arsenal for additional ammo to […]

Openings: Shepard Fairey – “On Our Hands” @ Jacob Lewis Gallery / Pace Prints

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 5 years since since street artist, activist and most recently outlaw (according to the mayor of Detroit), Shepard Fairey has ‘formally’ had a solo show in New York City. But as you likely know (if you are reading this), the American artist doesn’t stand still for very long. Let’s not kid ourselves with the math equation here, the Los Angeles-based artist and his posse still go as hard as any, 26+ years in the game. He recently finished up his second […]

Showing: Meguru Yamaguchi – “All is Flux, Nothing Stays Still” @ +81 Gallery

From August 13th until September 27th, the Plus 81 Gallery in NYC is hosting a solo exhibition by Meguru Yamaguchi (featured). The show includes the most recent works from his “Cut & Paste” series of robust abstract pieces. Born and raised in Shibuya, Tokyo’s epicenter of youth culture, the Japanese artist is now working and living in Brooklyn, NY. This mixture of experiences surely influenced his work that combines traditional brush stroke painting with new techniques. The pieces feel very dynamic due to their unusual shapes and untamed […]

Previews: Joel Rea – “Beasts of Arcadia” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Tomorrow night (September 12th), Jonathan LeVine Gallery (529 West 20th Street) will be hosting the opening of Beasts of Arcadia, a new solo from Joel Rea. The predominant imagery from this new body of work features human figures and tigers, placed in environments that are actively hostile to their existence. Interesting, many of these elements are collaged together from photographs that the Australia-based artist takes and then paints in great detail embedded in their surreal surroundings and situation. Stop by for a look yourself if you are in town. You […]
