Opening: Nicola Verlato & Caleb Brown – “Pagan Pop” & “A Modern World” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

A couple weekends ago, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery hosted new work from Nicola Verlato (featured) & Caleb Brown entitled Pagan Pop & A Modern World collectively. Featuring two surreal paintings styles that pair nicely together, the exhibition allowed fans to look into the imaginative minds of these two artists. On one side of the gallery, Verlato (seen above) created suspended human forms placed in beautifully rendered fantastical situations seen through the lens of how Western society has continually attempted to suppress its pagan roots. Studio Visit / Preview: Nicola Verlato – “Pagan Pop” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

On Saturday night, September 7th, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles will welcome back Nicola Verlato and his surreal paintings for another showing (see 2012). The new work is collectively entitled Pagan Pop, a reference to his contemporary take on late medieval narrative painting and the theme of how Western society has continually attempted to suppress its pagan roots. The I’ll Love You ‘Til The End of the World group show opened at Roq La Rue this past Friday to a large crowd which simultaneously got to see some great art and escaped the freezing temperatures outside. The title of the show is based upon a Nick Cave song of the same name, which finds the protagonist just after a bomb blast rocks a hotel as he speeds away, thanking his girl continually in the chorus. Over the weekend, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles welcomed local artist Nicola Verlato and his new paintings into their showspace with an opening reception. The new works collectively entitled Zero Gravity are beautiful executed with his characters and objects suspended in midair as if frozen in time.
