Following in the footsteps of Shepard Fairey (featured) of creating art at the Eiffel Tower (covered), Cleon Peterson has done something Mr. Obey has never had the opportunity to do – painting the first mural ever directly below the famed monument. Created for this year’s Nuit Blanche in Paris (organized by Palais de Tokyo), the piece is entitled Endless Sleep, a reference to the famous late-night cultural festival. The circular piece features the Los Angeles-based artist’s signature figures inspired by Greco-Roman frescos sans the usual provocative imagery. Discuss Cleon Peterson here.

Earlier this month, this year’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche opened up to the public in Toronto. One of the participating artists this year is French photogapher JR (interviewed) with several projects to engage his fans in Canada. AM stopped by the Nuit Blanche festival in Paris and got to catch the tail end of JR and crew wheat pasting their ginormous photo installations for his “Women are Heroes” (previewed) show which is part of his 28 Millimetre project (We were wondering how he got to the lower parts of the bridges). Here’s a little behind the scenes look into JR’s preparation for his latest project: “Women Are Heroes” which is already in progress as he “re-does” structures in Paris in his signature bold fashion. This new project which officially opens Oct 3rd will coincide with the art festival Nuit Blanche in Paris (“All Nighter” in French) – an annual cultural event where all the museums and art spaces are open during one night and artists redecorate the city.
