Openings: Allison Sommers & Ozabu – “Bruxism” & “彷徨 (Wander)” @ Thinkspace

A couple weekends ago, Allison Sommers (interviewed) & Ozabu opened their shows at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Bruxism in the main space was an immersive solo from Sommers featuring her increasingly abstracted meaty subject matter at times housed in various paraphernalia, completed by an installation that was like a record of how the new pieces were conceived and completed. In the project room, Ozabu presented nine new works collectively entitled 彷徨 (Wander), her debut solo with the gallery, with details that need to be seen in person to be appreciated. This Saturday night (September 17th), Ozabu will be opening a small show in the project room of Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Entitled 彷徨 (Wander), the new body of work from the Japanese artist will consist of nine detailed drawings on paper featuring her subjects and their strange interactions with the natural world. Tomorrow (February 7th) will mark the third time Thinkspace has curated a show in association with POW! WOW! Hawaii at the Honolulu Museum of Art School (see 2015 & 2014). The event will continue their push to further the art of what they call the “New Contemporary Movement” and will include an installation from Aaron Li-Hill. If you attended any of the previous Supersonic Invitational shows, you know you’re in for a treat. We were unable to attend the reception last Saturday night at Spoke Art, but we met up with the curator/art blogger, Zach Tutor, earlier in the day for a look at all the artwork.
