With POW WOW 2013 in full swing, AM made the rounds yesterday to check out the progress as murals were going up all around the Kakaʻako district in Honolulu. Some of the artists featured at work in this first set of photos include Jeff Soto, Nychos, 123Klan, Angry Woebots, Dabs Myla, Madsteez, Shark Toof, Katch, Slick, and Rone & Wonderlust – who are collaborating on the mural seen above. It feels like only yesterday when we finished up the phenomenal gathering of street artists known as POW WOW. Expanding both the presence inside and out, this year’s event took a giant leap to expand upon its premiere last year in Hawaii. Check out a slick look put together by Banzai Media at the outdoor works by a slew of international artists as they visually transformed the industrial neighborhood of Kaka’ako to psych you up for 2013!

Openings: Nicole Naone – “Mass” @ Human Imagination

Our friend and Hawaiian native Nicole Naone recently made her debut solo at Honolulu’s Human Imagination. Entitled Mass, the exhibition gives us a look at the classic female form through subtle compositions which Nicole hand molded in foam and plaster. Diverse in her mediums, we also caught sight of smooth illustrations and sculptures cast in bronze. A very sweet debut showcasing what the full time artist & part time model has achieved since we last time we saw her at this year’s POW WOW.

The ocean and the gnarly waves are some of the elements that are synonymous with the Hawaii islands and this year’s POW WOW made sure to make their mark on some water front property. The 123Klan, Slick, Flying Fortress and Aaron De La Cruz hit up the old derelict Fisherman’s Wharf with some marine-themed urban action to greet passerby’s. More photos after the jump…

Continuing our look on the streets of Hawaii, the impact of POW WOW and the artists brought in from around the world on the industrial district of Kaka’ako is undeniable. This time we look at the building that houses former UFC champion BJ Penn’s gym. Artists hailing from Australia (Meggs & Phibs), Britain (Will Barras & Mr. Jago) and New Zealand (Peap Tar) collaborated along side Hawaiian artist Angry Woebots to create an impressive piece.
