Openings: “Get Rich Quick!” Group Exhibition @ Carmichael Gallery

Last night, the Carmichael Gallery in Hollywood pulled no punches with their all-star show, “Get Rich Quick!,” showcasing the strongest talents in the street and urban art genre. Some scorching hot pieces lined the gallery’s walls for the exhibition, including: a rare Banksy canvas, a KAWS ad disruption, boxes and screen-printed collages from Faile, to originals by Barry McGee and Micallef and much more. Brian M. Viveros and Matthew Bone open their two-person solo exhibition entitled “Southern” tomorrow, May 9th, at Last Rites Gallery. Preview/Interviews: Melissa Haslam – “Wild Fields” @ LeBasse Projects

Australian up-and-comer Melissa Haslam visits Los Angeles for her latest exhibition “Wild Fields” at LeBasse Projects opening this Saturday, May 9th, in the gallery’s project room. Her interesting use of independent girls and hauntingly beautiful botanic backdrops has caused quite a buzz with fans and collectors. AM’s whirlwind Los Angeles art show weekend capped off with a trip to New Image Art for the “Octo Pusses” group exhibition, which featured the work of Aaron Johnson, Antonio Diaz, Ben Jones, Cleon Peterson, Gino Perez, Judith Supine (studio visit) and Neck Face. Preview: “Octo Pusses” Group Show & Bast – “Horse Radish” @ New Image Art

New Image Art opens their “Octo Pusses” group exhibition this Saturday, May 2nd. The show includes a nice variety of up-and-comers and established names, featuring the work of Aaron Johnson, Antonio Diaz, Ben Jones, Cleon Peterson, Gino Perez, Judith Supine (studio visit) and Neck Face. Taking over the gallery’s project room with “Horse Radish” is Bast (studio visit), who makes his return to the gallery with a series based on horse jockey collages. José Parlá’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, “Reading Through Seeing,” (teased) opens on May 14th at Oos Botos Gallery in Hong Kong. Old school London mainstay Andipa Gallery is going to the streets and holding an exhibition of Banksy’s rare works on canvas. Guess it’s time the old money flexed it’s muscles and showcased some choice secondary market pieces from one of United Kingdom’s finest.
