After sharing a first look at the public art created in Rio de Janeiro by JR (interviewed) for the Olympics, we now have photos from the rest of the project. Like the first piece featuring a Sudanese athlete high jumping over a building, the other two installations also feature athletes that didn’t make it to this year’s Olympics – French triathlete Léonie Periault swimming and a Brazilian diver. He chose to photograph young athletes who may one day make it, people who are still “working hard for the passion of sport.” […]

French artist JR (interviewed) recently completed a new installation in Rio de Janeiro utilizing an intriguing new technique lending the work a more three-dimensional feel. The clever new piece is based on a photo of Mohamed YOUNES IDRISS of Sudan (who didn’t qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics) performing a high jump over the top of building with the assistance of some scaffolding. We have been following Rodrigo Branco for a while now, and after seeing him paint a lovely portrait mural in the Swiss alps recently (covered), it’s great to see him having a solo show at Homegrown Galeria in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Opened on 8th of October, Efígie (effigy) includes seven signature portrait pieces created for this show using mixed mediums such a acrylic and spray paint on canvas. Last month, we shared with you something Titi Freak painted during the fifth annual ArtRua fair in Rio de Janeiro. Turns out, a member of the Da Mental Vaporz crew was also in town painting a much larger 25m high mural entitled You’ll Sweat Blood And Water. Created over four days by Brusk, the impressive wall featured a disintegrating fire extinguisher made up of graffiti letterforms. Take a look at more photos below… Discuss Da Mental Vaporz here.

Last week, as part of the festivities surrounding the fifth annual ArtRua fair, held in the Centro Cultural Ação da Cidadania in Rio de Janeiro, local artists were invited in to paint some large panels for the fairgoers to enjoy. As one of the chosen artists, Titi Freak painted a man posed upside down with his usual style and technique and entitled it “A queda do ego” or “The fall of the ego.” Take a look at more photos below… Discuss Titi Freak here.

Earlier today, Museu Casa do Pontal in Rio de Janeiro unveiled the first ever permanent installation from the Brazilian street savants – Os Gemeos. Entitled The Bunker, the piece features a statue of their famous yellowskinned character enclosed within a concrete bunker. On Saturday, the 31st of January, Museu Casa do Pontal will be inaugurating new work by Brazilian artists Os Gemeos. Created exclusively for this institution, the twins’ first permanent installation will be entitled The Bunker. The activities will begin in the afternoon at the Municipal Theatre, in Bandeirantes, Rio de Janeiro, with an open conversation with artists Gustavo & Otavio Pandolfo, mediated by curators Paul Portela and Angela Mascelani, followed by the installation reveal and a live concert by Siba. Titifreak for Seido Restaurant (Rio de Janeiro)

Brazilian street artist Ttitfreak recently released photos of a mural he recently painted for Seido Restaurant in Rio de Janeiro. Drawing from his Japanese heritage, his imagery fits in perfectly with the cuisine in this restaurant which in this case featured one of the koi fish that we often see from him.
