Happy Presidents’ Day

For those of you lucky enough to have today off work in the States, here is Ron English’s (featured) salute to the Presidents’ Day holiday. George Washington never looked better remixed with some comics and modified dollar bills.  For those of you who missed Ron’s recent solos in New York and the LA area, he’s scheduled for another show in Texas at the end of March at the International Museum of Arts and Sciences. Discuss Ron English here.

The Four Seasons and Ron English’s Camo Deer

You may remember out recent Christmas greeting from Ron English (featured) with his Camo Deer from his Status Factory show frolicking in the snow.  Now Mr. Popaganda has upped the ante by equipping it with the proper winter camoflauge as well as doing one for each season – Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Take a look at all four seasons (paintings and sculptural work) after the jump…

Merry Christmas from Ron English

We’ll start off our series of Christmas greetings this year with this offering from Ron English (featured). Take a look at this “Camo Deer” that we first saw for the Art From The New World group show, then realized in sculptural form at the Status Factory show in NY, and more recently at his Wynwood Walls mural in Miami. The snow looks like a natural setting for it although perhaps Ron needs to add some camouflage more suited to the winter environment. Discuss Ron English […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Corey Helford Gallery

One of the highlights of the Scope Art Fair this year was the booth from LA’s Corey Helford Gallery. From the moment we stepped foot in area, we noticed a plethora of art from some AM’s favorites like as Luke Chueh, D*Face, Chloe Early, Ron English, Natalia Fabia, Korin Faught, Eric Joyner, Brandi Milne, Sylvia Ji and Shag. The lux booth design was inviting as pimp couches and rugs invited spectators to take a load off to stare at a great preview of artwork for the […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Wynwood Walls

Last year, Wynwood Walls started out as an ambitious project to revive and reclaim the worndown Wynwood Arts District with art. This year, Tony Goldman upped the ante by expanding the project space with new works and installations by Ryan McGinness, Invader, Kenny Scharf, Ron English (featured), Jeff Soto’s (featured), Logan Hicks (interviewed), Friends With You and Shepard Fairey. In addition, a restaurant and a project gallery space were also created on-site to keep onlookers submerged in the arts. After checking out the space during […]

Whether the artists were participating on the legal walls like Primary Flight, Wynwood Walls, Graffiti Gone Global, or just freelancing it, there were certainly many new pieces thrown up for this year’s Art Basel Week Miami. You have already seen us focus in on some work from Ron English, Shepard Fairey, Gaia and Jeff Soto, but check more work in Part I of our overview of the murals. Pics we gathered after the jump…

Teaser: Basel Week Miami ’10 – TrustoLand & More

During last year’s Art Basel Week, the world was first introduced to the newly formed TrustoCorp with their unique take on urban art, in which they beautified a host of South Beach sign posts (covered). It looks like the socially conscious street art collective, along with the assistance of Contra Projects, is returning to the scene of the crime and has some big plans for this year’s art festivities in Miami. The subversive collective, who typically spend their time enriching urban neighborhoods – yet simultaneously […]

Openings: Ron English – “Status Factory” @ Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion

Known for its year-round sunshine, Disneyland, and tradition of conservatism, one thing Orange County is not known for is its high caliber art exhibitions.  Recently, The Orange Coast College Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion, along with Opera Gallery and Hurley came together and did their part to help shatter that cultural deficiency with a sweeping, immersive, and ambitious show by POPaganda master Ron English.  The amazing exhibition features over 100 of the artist’s works, from paintings to installations to sculptures.  Each work is amazing and […]
