While in town for Basel Week Miami, one of the exhibitions we enjoyed the most was put on by the Library Street Collective near Wynwood Walls. Held at a popup location (217 NW 25th St.) in Wynwood Walls, the Library Street Collective show features a solid lineup of artists, many of which are associated with their program in Detroit. In the land of summer gallery group shows, there are a few that we mark our calendars for and Joshua Liner Gallery hosts it annually. Entitled Summer Mixer, this group exhibition showcases new talent making their debut with the gallery. An excellent selection of artists consisting of Andrew Schoultz, Erin M. This Thursday night, July 17th, it’s time again for Joshua Liner Gallery to put on their Summer Mixer group exhibition, a look at some artists making their debut with the New York showspace. Included in this show are works from Andrew Schoultz, Erin M. Riley, Guy Yanai, Kristen Schiele, Michael Theodore, Sam Friedman, and Robert Larson (whose work can be seen above featuring repurposed discarded tobacco packaging that he finds on the streets). One month after his one night show at Kinfolk’s new 94Wythe space in NYC, for which he painted 72 different 12 x 12″ pieces, Sam Friedman opened his solo at the Library Street Collective in Detroit. Titled Easy, the show opened on the 10th of May and featured a new body of work by the young abstract painter. Continuing his ongoing series of works created by using bright colors, the new pieces depict vibrant flora and tropical sunsets.
