Releases: Bom.K – “Aérotik Malpa”

French artist Bom.K, member of the infamous DMV crew, recently finished working on his first edition of Aérotik sculptures. These collectible figures are entirely handmade by the artist himself, from its conception, creation to packaging. These characters have been present in BomK’s work for years, as a result of the spray paint fumes, representing an alchemy between the curves of the female body and the cold technicality of the aerosol. After their appearances on walls, canvases and paper, this is the first time they are appearing in 3D form, featuring all the recognizable elements of his haunting work. Aérotik […]

Upcoming: Haroshi – “Still Pushing Despite The Odds” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

After a successful showing with Jonathan LeVine in 2011 and 2013, Haroshi (featured) will be opening his third show with the gallery on February 19th. Entitled Still Pushing Despite The Odds, the new work consists of the Japanese artist’s signature wooden sculptures made with the novel use of recycled skateboards as a medium. Perhaps referencing the time-consuming nature of his unique technique, Haroshi also states – “throughout their lifespan together the skater and his board get battered, but even so they get up again to face […]

Showing: Isaac Cordal – “Moments de solitude” @ Spacejunk

Last week, Spacejunk in Bayonne, France presented new works from Isaac Cordal in an exhibition entitled Moments de solitude. For this showing, the Brussel-based artist created installations for the indoor space that mirror the pieces he usually leaves in the streets. These sculptural interventions, which he calls Cement Eclipses, consist of tiny middle-aged men in suits who navigate dreary, oppressive environments pointing out the how we are slaves to consumerism, funded by lives of drudgery. Streets: Peter Regli – “Snow Monsters” (New York)

Now through March 13th, Peter Regli’s Snow Monsters will be on view at Flatiron’s North Public Plaza in New York. The timely installation, presented by the Dominique Lévy Gallery in partnership with the NYC DOT Art Program and the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership is just the latest project in the Swiss artist’s continuing Reality Hacking series, number 320 to be exact since 1996. The new work fits perfectly with his practice of “transforming existing elements in the streetscape or by inserting sculptures into an almost too-familiar setting.” As you can see from the photos, combined with the […]

Showing: Os Gemeos – “The Bunker” @ Museu Casa do Pontal

Earlier today, Museu Casa do Pontal in Rio de Janeiro unveiled the first ever permanent installation from the Brazilian street savants – Os Gemeos. The event also featured a conversation with the twins as well as a live concert from Siba. More photos below… Photos via the artists. Discuss Os Gemeos here.

In collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou in Paris is currently presenting the first exhaustive retrospective devoted to Jeff Koons in Europe until the 27th of April. Through a chronological itinerary, the retrospective features around 100 sculptures and paintings sourced from all over the world, including all the landmark pieces in the artist’s career spanning the past 35 years. Inspired by Marcel Duchamp “readymade’ objects, Jeff Koons started his first series Inflatables, by displaying coloured inflatable toys on mirrors. He then turned his attention […]

Openings: Mark Jenkins – “Moment of Impact” @ Lazarides Rathbone

Last week, Mark Jenkins (interviewed) premiered his debut solo show with Lazarides Rathbone entitled Moment of Impact. For his fans in London, the American artist has assembled a selection of provocative mixed media canvases and hyper-realist sculptures. Some pieces like his masked full-size figures are direct translations of his street interventions while others are produced for the gallery setting like the leg which seems to be bursting through a canvas or arms committing seppuku. Enjoy more photos below… Photo credit: Nathalie Thery & Lazarides. Discuss Mark Jenkins here.

Upcoming: Dustin Yellin x New York City Ballet

Coming up in February, the New York City Ballet will be collaborating with their third artist – Dustin Yellin (also see Faile & JR) – in series of special shows. Bringing sculpture into the arena of dance, the performances will feature the Brooklyn-based artist’s signature “window sandwiches” featuring the human form created out of collaged elements. The new pieces, which are extensions of his ongoing Psychogeographies series, will have his subjects put into motion, a nod toward the dancers and their craft. The NYCB third presentation of their Art […]
