Every Thing Must Go (previewed), the new Charming Baker pop-up show in London’s Covent Garden opened on Thursday 7 July. It was a well-organised, confidently-run operation on the night. Guests were looked after by a tag-team of hosts including the artist himself, his manager Tim Fennell, Pat Magnarella and Roger Klein of Pat Magnarella Management, and the Jealous Gallery crew. After hanging up his distinctive large-scale sculptural pieces in March at the Muziekgebouw Concert Hall in his home-city of Amsterdam (covered), Boris Tellegen aka Delta moved on to his next project, this time in the epicenter of art fair world – Basel, Switzerland. It looks like The Selby, whose quirky studio visits we have featured here on AM in the past, have expanded into film. This time, Todd visits sculptor Tom Sachs, owner of an uncanny ability to cobble together functional contraptions out of accumulated components. It’s been a little while since 2009’s Lazarus Rising at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, the last UK solo exhibition by Ron English. Opening Monday, June 27th at the Gagosian in London will be a new body of work from Takashi Murakami. Openings: Scott Radke – “Burlap” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday night in Culver City, Scott Radke (interviewed) creatures ran wild at the Thinkspace Gallery. Owls, a cobra, flowers, and other unidentified and strange characters from the Ohio-based sculptor took over the space with their unsettling realistic yet beautiful faces, many of which also featured incorporated burlap for texture. Openings: FriendsWithYou – “Rainbow City” @ High Line (New York)

Wednesday night saw the transport of FriendsWithYou’s massive installation Rainbow City (first seen in Miami) to New York to celebrate the opening of Section 2 of the High Line. The air-filled structures, some up to 40 feet high, from Sam and Tury, who make up the Miami based collective are sculptural representations of their colorful abstractions, 0f which some smaller versions were seen at The Hole last night (more on that later). Today, AM was on hand to catch the arrival of the mother of all Kaws Companions (so far). This Passing Through Companion was hauled over from the backyard of the Aldrich Contemporary Museum, where it was last exhibited and dropped off in the front yard of The Standard Hotel in New York.
