Streets: Escif (Spain)

Sparked by the recent pardoning of policemen convicted of beating an innocent man in Spain, Escif as painted a new mural in Valencia entitled Swan Lake. Taking inspiration from a recent video of the incident captured on tape (seen below) and set to the music of Swan Lake, the Spanish street artist has taken the liberty to add tutus to the officers in action. More detailed shots below… Discuss Escif here.

Streets: Askew One (New Zealand)

Dubbed the Askew Tankfarm Project, this newest endeavor from New Zealand’s best is located in Auckland near the wharf in the Wynyard Quarter. By painting over a cluster of silos, a nod to the area’s industrial past, Askew has creating a stunning new public art attraction. The lettering recounting the entire poem Auckland by C.K. Stead is a nice touch. Check out more of the photos below…

Streets: World Roundup (Nov 19 – Nov 25)

This week’s look at public art around the world is headlined by this new piece (source) from Case (aka Andreas von Chrzanowski) in Frankfurt, Germany. Streets: Mear One (Los Angeles)

Another day, another impressive mural from Mear One (interviewed). This latest wall is located in Culver City and features some of the apocalyptical-illuminati imagery that is often seen in his work as well as puts the LA-based street artist’s top-notch technical skills on display. This piece was part of series of works in support for Prop 37 leading up to the election and the fight for labeling of genetically modified foods (see video below for more info). Streets: Mike Stilkey (Los Angeles)

Mike Stilkey sent us some flicks of a recent mural he painted in Los Angeles. The 13 x 14 foot mural was painted outside of a photography studio in La Brea. We like how this furry guy brightens up his new home, and how his camera nods towards what’s inside the premises. Stilkey’s murals never fail to disappoint! Discuss Mike Stilkey here.

Streets: How & Nosm on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

Right after super storm Sandy rolled through NYC, we brought you an inside look at the famous Bowery & Houston wall as twins How & Nosm worked industriously to make their mark on this landmark mural location. Now, we can bring you some photos of the completed piece which utilized their signature red & gray-scale color palettes. From the looks of things, the brothers got into a real nice groove layering detail upon detail into mural, which in the end seemed to flow together seamlessly. Along with […]

Streets: Le 4eme MUR 2012 – Recap

After reporting on Escif’s murals for Le 4eme MUR last year (here & here), we now have a recap of the 2012 edition. The festival’s name (translated to “the fourth wall”) is a theater expression that symbolizes a virtual wall between the actor and the public which can apparently also be applied to the work of the street artist and his audience. This year’s lineup includes a return of Escif along with Mr Jago, Vhils (above), Tellas, Ericailcane, and 108. Check out more photos below…
