Fame Fest ’12: Ericailcane (Part I)

With the opening festivities (September 21-22) of the Fame Festival fast approaching, it looks like at least half of the artists (more here) for this year’s event have already made their mark in the small town in Italy. Grottaglie now has another additional mural from festival regular Ericailcane has he painted this new wall entitled gipsy disagio in his usual illustrative style. Discuss Fame Festival here. With his show opening very soon (September 18th) in Hong Kong, French street artist JR has completed another mural for his Inside Out project. This new long mural was installed on the roof of one of the footpaths of the IFC and can be seen from various viewpoints above the piece. Headlining our Streets: World Roundup this week is a rare extraterrestrial piece from Invader. After a failed attempt last month, he has finally lived up to namesake and invaded space with his tiled works. Launching from Miami, Florida where he is preparing for his next exhibition, the French street artist was able to send his imagery into orbit with a helium balloon fitted with a camera to document it (and GPS to retrieve it). Streets: RETNA @ Michael Kohn Gallery (Los Angeles)

As we reported last month, the Michael Kohn Gallery will be hosting a new body of work from notorious LA writer RETNA (featured). It looks like fans of the graffiti artist will not only be admire his works inside the space, but also his urban calligraphy gracing the facade of the West Hollywood gallery. Most fans of street art have be following the creation online of the Os Gemeos and Aryz collaboration mural in Poland over the last several weeks. We now have a look at the completed wall (painted for the Urban Forms Gallery event in Lodz) as well as some progress pics. Our Streets: World Roundup returns this week with this collaborative mural from Serbian twins Sobekcis and Zoer at the top of the list. The wall was painted on the westside of Copenhagen on a street called Sdr. Boulevard. Thanks for Henrik Haven for the photo. Festival Images (Switzerland)

Starting this weekend in Vevey, Switzerland, the Festival Images kicks off with a series of outdoor and indoor projects as well as associated programming. If you remember, the event (held biannually) was anchored by the Unframed project in 2010 from French street photographer JR. This year, he’s back with Shoot, a giant photo booth creating images for his Inside Out endeavor where participants have to lay down to have their portrait shot (see photostream) and then seeing their photo drift down over 42 feet. Streets: Escif (Peru)

Spanish street artist Escif never seems to stop, with each new mural (often times with a political message) documented on his blog street against. This time, the prolific painter headed over to Cerro de Pasco, Perú to work on a new piece pointing out another injustice. He states – “In order to expand the vast open pit from which the deposits of minerals are extracted, each year entire neighbourhoods in the town are demolished and their residents forced to relocate.” Discuss Escif here.

The Los Angeles-based Augustine Kofie (featured) recently headed down to work on a new mural installation at the Amplify Campus in Venice, California.
