Previews: Jeff Soto & Maxx242 – “Fire Within” @ Bunsen Goetz Gallery

This Saturday, November 9th, the Bunsen Goetz Gallery in Nuremberg, Germany will be hosting a two person show from Jeff Soto (interviewed) and Maxx242. The two friends and studio mates, who recently travelled together to Luxembourg (covered), will be returning to Europe with new works playing with “themes of love, sexuality, and spirituality” for Fire Within. Studio Visit / Previews: Mary Iverson – “Sunk” @ Davidson Galleries

We recently visited Mary Iverson’s studio as she finished up works for her Sunk exhibition, opening on November 7th at the Davidson Galleries in Seattle. After receiving an art grant, Mary traveled to Yosemite National Park in order to gain some source material for her wonderful landscape paintings. Streets: ESPO (Copenhagen) – Part 1

It looks like ESPO (featured) is back in Copenhagen (see 2011) for an artist talk and the European premiere of his documentary film A Love Letter For You. Along with this event presented by V1 Gallery and held at (Kunsthal Charlottenborg. Nyhavn 2. Copenhagen K – Denmark) on November 5th from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, Steve Powers is also in town to paint a new large-scale mural in front of the U.S. Embassy. Ryan McGinness x SPiN Standard Glow-Pong Table

Recently, Ryan McGinness unveiled a custom black light ping-pong table that he designed for SPiN Standard at The Standard, Downtown LA. The New York-based artist stuck true to his graphic style for this custom table, utilizing his trademark iconography and design aesthetics to convey a complex and poetic concept. Openings: KAWS @ Mary Boone Gallery (Chelsea)

Continuing his spate of strong showings recently, KAWS opened one of two shows over the weekend in New York at the Mary Boone Gallery in Chelsea. For this space, the Brooklyn-based artist created three new wooden sculptures, over eighteen feet high, in a style first seen in Switzerland for a showing for Basel week. These three monumental wooden companions were displayed along with three eight foot tondos. Showing: Jeff Depner – ‘Variations: Black Napkins’ @ Nancy Margolis Gallery

Vancouver-based artist Jeff Depner opened his debut New York solo exhibition last week at Nancy Margolis Gallery. Variations: Black Napkins showcases Depner’s intense application process where he places multiple layers of paint amidst an equal amount of reductive processes to build up his compositions. His hard edged forms have an organic feel amongst the highly stylized architectural notions he presents. Geometric configurations wrestle with natural elements in his paintings, where colour theory underpins his architectonic aesthetic. Upcoming: “Black Moon” @ Model Citizen Studios

Open for two days only starting tonight, Black Moon is a group exhibition featuring four California-based artists Jessicka Addams, Camille Rose Garcia (seen above), Elizabeth McGrath, and Marion Peck. Curated by Alix Sloan, the show will feature Addams’ octopi-related imagery, CRG’s recent obsession with bats, McGrath’s three-dimensional art, and Peck’s clown portraits. Openings: Hush – “Fatales” @ The Outsiders

After completing a high profile project working on the interiors of TAO a the Maritime Hotel in New York, Hush (interviewed) returned to the UK to open a solo at The Outsiders in London. Fatales features paintings and sketches from the Newcastle-based artist rendered in a style familiar to fans of the Hush melding Eastern & Western influences. Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Final Days

Since we last mentioned Banksy’s ongoing art residency in the Big Apple, he’s since created a piece near Yankee Stadium (seen below) and painted over an existing piece in a thrift shop for charity (also seen below). And now, earlier today, he brought the historic Better Out Than In to a close with his take (seen above) on the bubble tags made famous by vandals in New York. The inflatable throw-up was seen on the Long Island Expressway near Queens. Discuss Banksy here.
