Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 1

Bristol’s elusive street artist, Banksy, just launched a website, BanksyNY.com, which is dedicated to a new project he hinted at on his official website some 10 days ago. According to the site, Better Out Than In appears to be a month long street residency during which Banksy will be attempting to host an entire show on the streets of New York. Staying true to his love for working in public, he just revealed his first piece (seen above) painted in Chinatown. Each one apparently will have  toll free number next to it, […]

Upcoming: Tiffany Bozic – “Sense of Wonder” @ FFDG

On October 18th, the Fecal Face Dot Gallery will be welcoming back (see 2008) Tiffany Bozic for a solo showing in The Mission in San Francisco. Drawing from her life-long love of nature, the Bay Area artist will be presenting a new body of work entitled Sense of Wonder. Bozic often adds surreal twists and turns to her vibrant portraiture of creatures in the wild, leading to imaginative compositions that startle the mind. We look forward to seeing what she has planned for this show, but for […]

Showing: Joram Roukes – “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” @ B15 Gallery

Just this Friday night, Dutch painter Joram Roukes opened his solo show at the B15 Gallery in Copenhagen entitled Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Based thematically on the influential Smashing Pumpkins album of the same name, the series of stunning new paintings features surreal creatures formed with a piecemeal compilation of other scenes and components. This technique enables the former street artist to create pieces that have a dynamic feel to them and when accented with vibrant colors, it results in some of the most refined work we have seen from […]

Streets: Natalia Rak (Poland)

Last week in Poland, Natalia Rak painted a new mural for the Folk on the Street 2013 event. Playing with ideas of scale, the clever piece features a girl watering a small plant or tree depending on your perspective and can be found on the side of the Institute of Chemistry building at the University of Bialystok. Take a closer look at the mural in the photos below… Via Street Art Utopia.

Showing: Mark Dean Veca – “Year of the Snake” @ SiTE:LAB (ArtPrize)

The Los Angeles-based Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) recently traveled to Michigan to create an installation for this year’s ArtPrize competition. The site-specific immersive installation entitled Year of the Snake transforms the Grand Hall of the old Public Museum of Grand Rapids with his signature imagery. The concept behind the work featuring a printed vinyl floor and hand-painted walls is a riff on this year’s Chinese Zodiac and that fact that the space is actually going through a transformation, like the shedding of a snake’s skin. For those interested, head over here […]
