Entitled Hollow Heaven & King of Kings, two skatedecks were recently released by YESNIK featuring some of his signature imagery. Drawing from his experience living in an isolated mountain town in Central California, the Los Angeles-based artist has been painting totemic abstracted elements of the natural landscape for the last several years. Supreme recently announced their latest artist collaboration project with none other than famed sculptor Urs Fischer. The Swiss-born artist has elected to use the image of a cigarette, in various states of use, for the latest installment of the streetwear brand’s longstanding artist deck series. This isn’t the first time Fischer has chosen this subject for his art and speaks to his focus on everyday objects and the effects of time. On December 2nd, The Skateroom is launching their new collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Along with a special event (RSVP required) and pop-op installation that night at the Delano Hotel in South Beach as part of Basel Week Miami, the series of new skatedecks featuring Warhol’s iconic imagery will be made available online. On June 27th, Takashi Murakami will be releasing a collaboration he has been working on with Vans. Utilizing his iconic imagery, the set will include six pairs of Vans Classic Slip-Ons, four skate decks, three tees, and three pairs of slip-ons for your little art collectors out there. This Saturday (Jan 4th, 7-10pm) in Chicago, Andrew Schoultz will be opening a special show featuring hand-painted skateboards. Held at Uprise Skateboard Shop, the 10 custom decks sound like they will be priced very reasonably at $300-$500 with the proceeds going to benefit After School Matters, a non-profit organization that offers local high school teens innovative out-of-school activities. This past weekend, Japanese artist Haroshi debuted a new body of works at New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Entitled Virtual Reality, this exhibition is the second in the Big Apple by the sculptor known for utilizing used skate decks as his source material. On display this time were full-scale sculptural creations such as kicks by Airwalk, bullets, a skull, and even an incredible life size skater pulling off a handplant. Brilliant artists The Clayton Brothers recently collaborated as guest designers with Mark Gonzalez’s Krooked Skateboards to produce a limited edition set of two skateboards, entitled Any Given Night. And while the limited edition decks are on sale at various skate shops, The Clayton Brothers reserved 25 of each deck to customize as unique pieces.
