Working hard over the holidays, Andrew Schoultz brought some cheer recently to old Chinatown in Los Angeles with a new mural. Painted on the side of the Gregorio Escalante Gallery, the new piece features the all seeing eye that is commonly seen in the locally-based artist’s imagery among other signature motifs. Those who have been following David Choe’s Instagram no doubt already know about his Igloo Hong Project where artists Aryz, Esao Andrews, James Jean, and El Mac along with Choe spent some time in Cambodia creating public art. The piece seen here entitled Thread of Life was painted by Mac in Phnom Penh of a local Khmer artisan named Moeun Thary, who hand-embroiders traditional Khmer ceremonial garments. Damien Hirst x Connaught Hotel Christmas Tree

For this holiday season, the Connaught Hotel in London commissioned Damien Hirst to create a Christmas tree outside for passerby’s in the posh Mayfair neighborhood to enjoy. The 30 foot Norway Spruce was decorated by the British artist with the power of science and medicine in mind, one of the themes that frequently inspires him. Streets: Isaac Cordal (New York)

Last month, Isaac Cordal was invited to participate in the Residency at Vyt (Art Students League of New York) for a month. While there, the Spanish artist continued his series of Cement Eclipses works by creating more sculptures for placement on the streets. Earlier this month, Chandran Gallery in San Francisco opened a show curated by Andrew Schoultz entitled Major Work. The locally-based artist carefully selected a roster of participants that included himself, Alicia McCarthy, Aaron Noble, Kelsey Brookes, Revok, James Marshall (Dalek), Sam Friedman, Eric Yahnker, Mark Dean Veca, Saber, Hilary Pecis, Tim Biskup, Eric White, and Allison Schulnik. Openings: Erik Parker – “Undertow” @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

A couple weeks ago, the 297 Tenth Avenue location of Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York hosted the opening reception for Undertow, Erik Parker’s new solo show. Drawing from a wide range of influences, the locally-based artist arranges these elements into complex compositions that become greater than the sum of its parts. The highly saturated palette as well as shaped canvases further accent his imagery, a commentary on the “world’s current political, social, and economic landscapes.” Discuss Erik Parker here.

After a successful sold out Los Angeles debut show with Thinkspace Gallery (covered), Sainer & Bezt aka Etam Cru rounded up their visit to the Southland with another signature, bigger than life mural. From the 6th of February until the 12th of June 2016, Yorkshire Sculpture Park will be hosting the first UK museum exhibition by KAWS. The show will include new large, bright, graphic canvases at their expansive Longside Gallery and a series of monumental companion sculptures which will be exhibited around the historically designed landscape of YSP.
