This Saturday, July 18th, at Giant Robot 2 in Los Angeles, Edwin Ushiro (interviewed) will be unveiling new works for his latest solo entitled The Study of Life as Things. Most of the drawings are 8.5″ x 11″ and done with graphite, ink and ballpoint pens, tools the locally-based artist used during his intermediate school days. The Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga is hosting the first solo exhibition in a Spanish museum of Los Angeles-based artist Shepard Fairey (featured). Curated by Fernando Francés, the retrospective spans over 25 years, and features paintings, silkscreens, stencils, stickers, illustrations, collage, photographs, sculptures and works in wood and metal. With over 300 pieces, this is the largest body of work from Shep to ever be exhibited. Continuing his long collaboration with Lazarides, Ian Francis (featured) recently returned to London for the opening of his new show at the gallery’s flagship Rathbone Place location. The Chosen Form of Your Destroyer consists of new series of mixed media works that explore the coexistence of beauty and destruction in society today, rendered in the British artist’s signature mix of abstract and photorealistic techniques utilizing oil, ink, acrylic, graphite and charcoal. Streets: Deih (Istanbul)

Take a look at this sweet comic-inspired wall painted by Deih recently for the Mural Istanbul festival. The character rendered beautifully in vibrant colors by the Spanish artist seems to be doing something of cosmic significance. Known of her undulating sculptural creations through the unconventional use of feathers, Kate MccGwire currently has some works on display at various locales. Some of her pieces are at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol alongside work from Peter Randall-Page (through September 10th) – you can read more about it here. This weekend, a show co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery and Josef Zimmerman of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art will open at the museum. Entitled Invisible College, the group exhibition refers to the fact that many of the participants have found success outside of the traditional art educational model. After stopping in Hong Kong (covered) and Seoul (covered), Pejac finished his Asian tour with the most anticipated part of his trip – Tokyo. In his previous works, the Spanish artist has often used elements from Japanese culture, so it was very interesting to see how the land of the cherry blossom, samurais, etc will inspire him. POW! WOW! Long Beach ’15: James Jean

Over the weekend, James Jean (interviewed) completed one of his tallest murals yet for POW! WOW! Long Beach (see our coverage here). Painted on the side of the historic Varden Hotel in the heart of downtown, the striking black and white mural was placed next to a wall by Tristan Eaton (more on this later).
