Basel Week Miami ’13: Audrey Kawasaki for Thinkspace @ SCOPE

Just like earlier last year for SCOPE during Basel Week Switzerland (covered), the Thinkspace Gallery booth in Miami was also featured a mini-solo show from Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed). Included in the new body of work were her familiar exquisite portraiture of seductively innocent girls, with her technique taking advantage of the wood grain in each piece. Showing: Dan Quintana – “Desensitized 13” @ Copro Gallery

Showing through this Saturday is the joint exhibition from Bian Viveros (featured) & Dan Quintana at Copro Gallery entitled Desensitized 13. We already shared with you the contributions from Viveros here, so now it’s time to take a look at Quintana’s work. Rendered with his delicate touch, his feminine heroines live in a fantasy world inhabited by skeletal creatures while swathed in colors. Streets: SpY – “Cameras” (Madrid)

Installed with the “intention of not watching over anything,” SpY’s new intervention in Madrid features 150 fake surveillance cameras on the side of a building. The Spanish street artist is known for his appropriation of urban elements to make his message known and this newest Cameras piece is no exception. Currently showing at the Copro Gallery in Los Angeles is a joint exhibition from Brian Viveros (featured) & Dan Quintana. As fans who attended the SCOPE Art Fair during Art Basel Week in Miami already know, the new body of work features individual efforts as well as collaborative pieces from the two artist who specialize in surreal female figures with fantastical elements. Showing: Candice Tripp & Wes Walker – “I’M NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN!” @ Black Rat Projects

On view earlier this month at the Black Rat Projects in London was an interesting collaborative show from Candice Tripp (interviewed) and Giles Walker (known for his immersive robotic installations). IʼM NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN included the surreal, dark paintings & sculptural pieces from Tripp as well as some animatronic magic from Walker. Basel Week Miami ’13: Vanessa Beecroft x Kanye West @ Mana Wynwood

During Art Basel Week, Vanessa Beecroft x Kanye West took part in the Affordable Care group show (covered here) curated by Flaunt Magazine in Miami’s Mana Wynwood Complex. Lj Galerie in Paris is currently hosting a solo show by American street art stalwart, Swoon, until the 15th of January. Motherlands is Swoon’s third solo show in the French capital and it opened on the 30th of November. For this show, the US-based artist created a series of hand-painted linocut prints on mylar, which are composed into a site specific installation inside the gallery space.
