We made sure to stop by the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art while in town for Art Basel Week to take in an impressive collection of works from Tracey Emin. Entitled Angel Without You, the exhibition includes the Why I Never Became a Dancer video purchased in 1998 by the MOCA, the first American museum to acquire work from the UK-based artist. Openings: Mike Leavitt – “Empire Peaks” @ Jonathan LeVine

Last month, we stopped by the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York to check out a new showing from Mike Leavitt (interviewed) entitled Empire Peaks. Showing alongside Riusuke Fukahori’s work, which also had a three-dimensional feel to it, the new body of work from the Seattle-based Leavitt featured a mashup of historical figures and Star Wars characters, something we gave you a glimpse of in our earlier studio visit. Openings: Kris Kuksi – “Revival” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

The Joshua Liner Gallery in New York recently opened a solo exhibition from Kris Kuksi entitled Revival. The intricate and complex sculptural works from the Kansas-based artist plays a perfect contrast to the deceptively simple works from Riusuke Fukahori, who is concurrently showing in the same gallery. Kuksi’s mixed media assemblages explore the dark sides of the human psyche with ornate representations created from model kits and other materials that he has re-appropriated. Last month, the Joshua Liner Gallery in Chelsea presented all new works from Yokohama-based artist Riusuke Fukahori in his New York solo debut. The self-described goldfish fanatic keeps many of them around his studio for inspiration as well as considers them a metaphor for his life. A couple weeks ago, AM stopped by the Jonathan LeVine Gallery to check out new works from AJ Fosik collectively entitled Against The Infinite. Basel Week Miami ’13 / Studio Visits: Faile & Bast – “Deluxx Fluxx”

AM recently paid a visit to Faile’s Brooklyn hideout to take a closer look at their collaborative project with Bast – a nostalgic arcade-based exhibition entitled Deluxx Fluxx. Set to open tonight in South Beach (1604 Washington Blvd.), with sponsorship by Perrier, this marks version 3.0 for this mind blowing showcase of old school arcade games, foosball, and now they’ve added specially crafted pinball machines to bring back the sensory addictions of the 70s & 80s. Studio Visits: Tessar Lo

A few weeks ago AM got a chance to visit with artist Tessar Lo at his Toronto studio. He was just coming off of recent group shows More Than Two (Let It Make Itself) at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto and Buddy System at the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. Basel Week Miami ’13: Brian Viveros & Dan Quintana – “Desensitized13” @ Copro Gallery (SCOPE)

Like in 2010, painters Brian Viveros (featured) & Dan Quintana will be teaming up for a joint exhibition with Copro Gallery with the first showing during Art Basel Week in Miami. Both artists’ portraits of sexy women mixed with surreal elements will be on display at the SCOPE Art Fair from December 4-8 and then move on to Los Angeles to the gallery’s showspace at the Bergamot Station for an opening on December 14th (which will include more originals and limited edition releases).
