The new mural location also contains a bike rack specially designed by David Byrne. Releases: Haroshi x Uniful Limited Edition Skateboards

On September 5th, Japanese artist Haroshi (featured) introduced his limited edition skateboard decks released through Japanese skateboarding company Uniful. Thug For Life in the Shibuya district of Tokyo was packed with people that were interested in this release that instantly became hit in Asia. Along with the signed and numbered decks, the artist introduced a new sculpture that was made especially for this event. As previously announced, Tauba Auerbach recently opened a solo show at STANDARD (OSLO). Showing a whole new body of work that includes installation works, sculptural pieces, and canvases, the American artist worked with a wide range of materials from granite, sand, glass, resin, opal, to plywood and woven fabric. Nuart Festival ’13: Part II – Ernest Zacharevic, Hush, Strøk

This year’s Nuart Festival (see previous years) officially opened this weekend and we have a plethora of new street pieces to share with you. Previews: Saber – “Ugly American” @ The Outsiders (Newcastle)

Tomorrow (September 6th) in the UK, SABER (interviewed) will be unveiling all new works at The Outsiders in Newcastle. Entitled Ugly American, the graffiti artist’s European solo debut looks to feature two distinct set of works. One series consists of wood depictions (featured here) of the US Flag and the Union Jack, scarred and covered with his mark-making. The other pieces in the show are his abstract tags and urban calligraphy, sometimes peeking through from the back. Take a look at more preview images below… Discuss Saber here.

Upcoming: Kent Williams – “OPHTHALM: new drawings + paintings” @ Evoke Contemporary

On October 4th, the Evoke Contemporary in New Mexico will be presenting a new solo exhibition from Kent Williams. Making his return to the showspace (see 2010), the Los Angeles-based painter has put forth work collectively entitled OPHTHALM: new drawings + paintings. This Saturday (September 7th), the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles will be one of the places you must visit on your night of art. Not only will gifted painter Nicola Verlato be unveiling new works at the space, but Caleb Brown will also be presenting some intriguing paintings of his own. A Modern World will feature the New York-based artist’s crazy alternate realities, filled with things that appear where they shouldn’t be – like the surreal look at sharks and skydivers leaping out of planes amidst detonations. Matt Doust 1984 – 2013

It saddens the staff here at AM to have to bring news of the tragic passing of Matt Doust last week from a seizure, just days away from his debut United States solo exhibition that was to be held at the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. The young Perth-raised painter, who was shortlisted for the Archibald prize in 2011, a tribute to how well regarded his portraiture skills were in Australia.
