Openings: Sarah Joncas – “Taking Over” @ Last Rites Gallery

Earlier this month, the Last Rites Gallery in New York hosted the opening reception welcoming all new works from Sarah Joncas (interviewed). Entitled Taking Over, the new paintings see her semi-autobiographical portraits embrace a darker side with dangerous creatures, eerie transformations, and morbid scenes added to her imagery, which is not surprising seeing the setting (and their penchant for the dark arts) in which they are being displayed. Check out some photos below as well as video interview… Discuss Sarah Joncas here.

Openings: Paul Insect – “Out of Chaos” @ Opera Gallery (NYC)

United Kingdom’s Paul Insect (featured) recently crossed the pond to New York’s Opera Gallery to present a new body of work entitled Out of Chaos. Openings: Dave Kinsey – “Everything At Once” @ Joshua Liner

Last week, Dave Kinsey unveiled a new body of work at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. Entitled Everything At Once, this large series is another step forward in the LA-based artist’s magnetic style of painting. Using his abstract techniques and unique color palate, the paintings convey a world gone mad, with media, perpetual conflict and the struggles between the urban and natural worlds. Also for this show, the works landed on both ends of the size scale – some of his largest to date alongside a […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: Invader @ Jonathan LeVine / PULSE

As we wandered the halls of the PULSE art fair (highlights here) during Basel Week Miami, we came upon the booth of Jonathan LeVine solely featuring the work of Invader. After seeing his work up and about town, we now had a chance to see some of the French artist’s tiled creations up close. Also present was the balloon contraption that allowed him to get his signature character up in space earlier this year (covered). While in Florida, the street artist also hosted a screening for […]

Openings: Joe Sorren – “Everything’s Alright Sweetie, Please Get Some Sleep” @ Jonathan LeVine

Joe Sorren (featured) recently opened a great show at New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Entitled Everything’s Alright Sweetie, Please Get Some Sleep, this exhibition delivered what we come to expect from the artist. From his thoughtful impressionist inspired brushstrokes to dreamy soft textures & lighting, Joe touches the viewers in a way few artists we’ve seen could. The themes this series harnesses are the fear and concerns of vulnerability, but also the contrasting strength that comes with courage. This wonderful show is up until December 29th, […]

Consisting of 420 uniquely colored one inch dots, this piece required a mind-boggling four hundred and twenty […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: Art Basel Highlights – Part 2

Without a doubt the sun of the art fair solar system that is Basel Week Miami is Art Basel. Concentrating on just this fair and dedicating our energy to catching it in its entirety including the two hundred plus blue chip galleries present took AM two full days (see day one). It was definitely worth the time spent as we observed million of dollars and flowing from collectors into the art world. What was interesting is the more notable influence of a younger generation artists […]
